Spelt Yogurt Flatbread

Spelt Yogurt Flatbread is a simple yeast-free recipe made on the stovetop in 15 minutes. Serve them with curries, soups, and roasted chicken or veggies.

Spelt Yogurt Flatbread
We adore stovetop flatbreads. We already have a fantastic flatbread recipe on the blog. It’s made with yeast; it’s fluffy and soft, but you need to be a little bit more organized to make it since yeast needs proofing. On the other hand, these Flatbreads are yeast-free, and you can make them in about 15 minutes from scratch. To make them, we will need spelt flour (or whole wheat flour), greek yogurt, baking powder, olive oil, and salt. Serve it with soups and curries, or use them for wraps.

Delicious Spelt Yogurt Flatbread (no yeast)

It takes 15 short minutes to make these from scratch. We adore:

  • the golden brown stovetop flatbreads that are so easy to make
  • they are perfect with soups, curries, veggies, meat
  • you don't need any yeast to make these, and you can easily use whole-wheat flour
  • only five ingredients are needed and zero machines

Essential ingredients

You will need five ingredients to make this flatbread. All of them are easily accessible in every store.

Flour - we used white spelt flour for this recipe. Whole wheat flour and all-purpose flour will work too.

Yogurt - greek yogurt makes this flatbread recipe with yogurt rich and soft in texture. Optionally use skyr.

Baking powder - helps them rise when baking.

Oil - we always use olive oil but feel free to use canola oil.

Sol - always a must.

METHOD

  • make the dough

Combine spelt flour, greek yogurt, baking powder, olive oil, and a pinch of salt in a bowl. Knead into a smooth dough. Divide the dough into six pieces, shape it into a ball, and set aside for 10 minutes. This way, it will be easier to roll the dough into flatbreads.

  • spelt flatbread

Roll each ball into a flatbread approximately 15 cm or 6 inches long. Place a large (grill) pan over high heat. Don't add any oil. Add one or two flatbreads at once, depending on the pan size. Cook for 1 - 2 minutes on each side until the flatbread is golden-brown and baked.

  • serve

Place the flatbreads on a plate and serve with your favorite main dish or use them for wraps.
