💭 Tips and Variations
- If you want a really spicy soup, you can add additional cayenne pepper, some black pepper, red pepper flakes, chile peppers, chili powder, or even some cajun seasoning to taste.
- For a less spicy soup, you can omit the cayenne pepper altogether.
- This soup is also delicious with pork chops or chicken added to it. Simply cook the meat in the pan before adding the rest of the ingredients.

- If you want a thinner soup, you can add additional beef broth or vegetable stock.
- If you want a thicker soup, you can add extra diced tomatoes or tomato paste.
- To make a vegetarian cabbage soup recipe, simply omit the ground beef and use vegetable stock instead of beef broth.
- This soup is also great for batch cooking. Simply double or triple the recipe and freeze the extra soup in airtight containers for another day.
🍽️ What can I eat this recipe with?
This Spicy Cabbage Soup recipe is delicious on its own or paired with air fryer chicken hearts, air fryer chicken gizzards, or some air fryer buffalo cauliflower.
It also makes a great meal when paired with some extra protein, like air fryer turkey bacon or blackened shrimp. I like to eat it with some cauliflower rice for a low-carb meal.
And if you're looking for a more filling soup, you can add some extra meat or veggies like carrots and celery. Whatever way you choose to eat it, this soup is sure to please!
👩🍳 Frequently asked questions
Cabbage, like most cruciferous vegetables (such as broccoli and sprouts), includes a compound called sulforaphane that aids the body's defense mechanisms against toxins. Additionally, glutathione, an antioxidant that helps the liver perform its detoxification duties better, is provided by cabbage to the body.
To retain the ingredients' integrity and ensure that the soup doesn't spend too much time in the "danger zone," allow the soup to cool completely before freezing. Then, put the soup in a freezer-friendly container or smaller containers to freeze.
The USDA recommends discarding any soup or stew that has been left out overnight. The poisons the bacteria may have created may still be present in food, even after it has been heated to kill microorganisms. This is true whether the soup or stew has meat in it or not.

I’ve made this several times and I keep coming back to this recipe. I brown the hamburger and then do the dump-and-go crock pot thing. Soooooo good, I add the cabbage in the last hour and it’s perfect!
