Ingredients

Cherry Cheesecake Dessert Wontons ingredients.
  • Wonton Wrappers – You can find wonton wrappers in the refrigerated section of the grocery store, or you can use fresh gyoza wrappers. Sometimes they are in the produce department at my local store.
  • Cream Cheese – I like to use full-fat cream cheese for this recipe. Lower fat options can be used, but are not as creamy as the full fat variety.
  • Cherry Pie Filling – You can make your own or just open up a can of cherry pie filling and use it as is.
  • Sour Cream – The sour cream adds a nice tang to the filling and helps balance out the sweetness of the cherry pie filling

Substitutions

Greek Yogurt: Instead of sour cream you can use greek yogurt if you prefer.

Strawberry Pie Filling: If you don’t like cherries, feel free to use strawberry pie filling or raspberry instead.

Variations / Options / Add-Ins

Here are a few ways that you can personalize this recipe to make it your own.

Chocolate Chips: If you want to add some chocolatey goodness to these wontons, adding a few chocolate chips to the filling is always an option.

Cinnamon Sugar: Roll your crispy wontons in a cinnamon sugar mixture after you fry them for an extra sweet treat.

Honey: Drizzle some honey over the top of your wontons for a little bit of sweetness.

Lay a few wontons out on a cutting board and place a wet paper towel over the remaining wonton wrappers to keep them from drying out.

Pro Tips

Here are a few tips to make sure that your wontons turn out perfectly every time that you make them.

  • For the crispiest wontons, make sure not to overcrowd the pot when frying.
  • If you are having trouble getting your wontons to stick, you can use an egg white and water mixture to help. However plain water worked just fine for me.
  •  If you don’t have a thermometer, you can tell that the oil is hot enough for frying when a small piece of wonton wrapper dropped into it sizzles and crisps up quickly.
  • Use your favorite oil for deep frying, I prefer to use canola oil, but you could also use vegetable oil.
  • Sprinkle the top of these with powdered sugar, or drizzle with chocolate sauce while they are still warm.
