WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE THIS SMOOTHIE RECIPE
Ingredients for salted caramel smoothie
- Milk: I use 2% milk, but you can use whatever milk you have. Dairy free milk, like unsweetened almond milk is another great option.
- Banana: You’ll need 1 frozen banana.
- Salted caramel sauce: I use my own recipe, which is really easy. You can use store-bought, if you prefer. I suggest using thick caramel sauce instead of the runny sauce.
EQUIPMENT YOU'LL NEED
A high speed blender

Recipe Notes
Serving Tips
If you want, you can add a few fresh banana slices.
Storage Tips
I never store smoothies. I think smoothies should be served immediately.
Freezing Instructions
I’ve never tried freezing smoothies before, however, I don’t see why it can’t be done. I’d place the smoothies in freezer bags or packets and lay them flat in the freezer. I would only freeze them for about a month and let them thaw in the refrigerator overnight. The next day, I'd stir it well before drinking.
ADD INS & VARIATIONS
- Ground flax seeds will add extra fiber and a lot of health benefits! It will also help make the smoothie thicker.
- Greek yogurt! My favorite is Fage 2%! It’s thick and tastes amazing!
- Cacao nibs will give a slightly bitter chocolate taste!
- Cocoa powder or melted chocolate for a chocolate salted caramel flavor!
- Natural Peanut Butter or almond butter will not only add great taste, but it will also add some thickness and extra nutritional benefits!
- Turn this into a salted caramel protein smoothie by adding some vanilla protein. It will make you feel a bit fuller, too!
Smoothie Toppings
I drizzled some more salted caramel sauce on top. Of course, you could add a variety of other toppings. Here are some ideas:
- Fresh fruit
- Chopped nuts
- A dust of cinnamon - I love cinnamon with this smoothie!
- Sprinkle with some shredded coconut
- Your favorite seeds - this would be especially nice if you make this into a caramel smoothie bowl for breakfast.
- If you want more of a dessert or you’re feeling naughty, you could add some whipped cream on top or some grated chocolate!
Salted Caramel Shake
Instead of milk, add some vanilla ice cream and make a milkshake!
TIPS FOR SUCCESS
- You need a good blender with a powerful motor to get the perfect smooth texture.
- If your smoothie is too thick, add more milk. If it’s too thin, add more frozen bananas.
- I don’t usually use ice when I make smoothies because it often makes them watery. For me, frozen fruit is best to make smoothies thick.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I've never made this smoothie ahead of time because it's so quick to make. However, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to make it ahead and keep it in the refrigerator overnight. I wouldn't keep it longer than than that, though.
To me, bananas are the best fruit for making smoothies because they help make them thick.

This is a great way to add calcium to my diet, using almond milk and increasing to 3/4 cup. I kept the salted caramel at two tablespoons and added a few frozen strawberries.
Voula
Hello, Beth! I love your additions to the recipe, especially the frozen strawberries! Sounds delicious! Glad you liked the recipe!
Christa
I love salted caramel stuff but I liked this too, but I just wish that it tasted more like caramel rather than bananas but it was still good! Thank you
Voula
Hi, Christa! I'm glad you liked the recipe! You can always use less banana and more salted caramel sauce!☺️
