Whipped Feta Dip

If you’re looking for a trusted dip recipe that you can serve pretty much anytime, this Whipped Feta Dip is the recipe for you. From tailgates for game day, to Christmas Eve appetizers, this easy vegetarian dip is always a crowd pleaser.

You know what’s even better? It honestly couldn’t be any easier. It’s very much a “throw things in the food processor and something magical comes out” kind of recipe. No baking, no peeling, no chopping, it’s just easy. But still so delicious.

If you love lemony dips, feel free to add a bit of lemon juice or lemon zest to this dip. I prefer it without it, but I know that it’s a popular addition that some people really love.

I’ve partnered up with Klarbrunn to bring you this super simple appetizer recipe. I love enjoying an ice cold can of their Cherry Lime Sparkling Water with it! You can find out where to buy Klarbrunn here.

Ingredients

Feta: Since this is the main ingredient in this dip, try to use the best quality feta that you can. My favorite block feta is the Kirkland brand from Costco, and it’s noticeably salty. This recipe works best if you use room temperature feta.

Sour Cream: This is a creamy ingredient that allows the dip to become smooth enough to be truly dippable. You can substitute this with Greek yogurt if you’d prefer.

Mayonnaise: My favorite dips use a ratio of 2 parts sour cream to 1 part mayonnaise. It makes the dip creamy without having a noticeably mayonnaise flavor, and that ratio works incredibly well here. It’s important to use real mayonnaise, Miracle Whip or something similar will be too sweet.

Garlic: All you need is 1 medium clove of garlic to add tons of flavor to this dish. Any more than that and the end result will be too spicy. If your garlic cloves are particularly large, I’d recommend only using 1/2 of a clove.

Olive Oil: I love adding a small amount of high quality extra virgin olive oil to this dip at the very end. It adds a light Mediterranean flavor to it. Try to use one that you’d use raw on a salad, rather than a light tasting one that you might use to cook with.

Salt and Pepper: These ingredients are totally optional, and whether or not you need them is really dependent on the brand of feta you use. If you use a salty feta, you probably won’t need to add any salt.

How To Make Whipped Feta

Start by crumbling the room temperature feta. This helps the food processor blend it into a smooth and creamy feta spread. (See the recipe card below for the full printable recipe.)

Add the feta, sour cream, mayonnaise, and garlic to the food processor. Blend until it’s totally smooth. Scrape the sides down as necessary. Add the olive oil and blend until it’s just incorporated into the dip.

Transfer the dip to a serving bowl, then garnish with your favorite toppings. See the recipe card below for the full written instructions, including ingredient amounts, and helpful tips, etc.

Whipped Feta Toppings

One of my favorite things about this feta dip is that the topping options are so versatile. You can go with savory, sweet, or spicy. Here are my favorite topping options:

Savory Toppings: Olive oil, pine nuts, sesame seeds, marinated or roasted cherry tomatoes, roasted olives, sun dried tomatoes, charred scallions, or fresh thyme.

Sweet Toppings: Roasted strawberries or honey.

Spicy Toppings: Roasted jalapeno slices, hot honey (also called spicy honey), or red pepper flakes.

What To Serve With Feta Dip

This is a great dipping sauce to eat with fresh veggies, especially carrot sticks and celery sticks. You can also serve it with toasted pita wedges, pita chips, baguette slices, tortilla chips, crispy potatoes, or kettle chips.

BEST Whipped Feta Dip Recipe

The best whipped feta dip recipe.

5-ingredient whipped feta dip takes only 5 minutes to make and is the best quick and easy appetizer recipe!

Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 (8 ounce) block feta cheese*
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 medium clove garlic (minced)
  • 1 Tablespoon good quality extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt (to taste)**
  • Pepper (to taste)**

Instructions

  1. To a food processor or high speed blender, add the feta, sour cream, mayonnaise, and garlic. Blend or process until the texture is completely smooth, stopping to scrape down the sides as you go.
  2. Add in the olive oil, and blend to incorporate.
  3. Taste, and adjust salt and pepper to your preference.**
  4. Top with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkling of fresh herbs or crushed red pepper flakes.
  5. Serve with pita wedges, sliced vegetables, or chips.

Notes

*This recipe works better with a block of feta cheese that you’ve crumbled yourself. If you purchase feta cheese crumbles they are coated in an anti-caking agent that changes the flavor.

**Whether or not you need salt entirely depends on the brand of feta you use. Some brands are very salty, and won’t need any added salt. Other brands aren’t very salty, and those will need a pinch or two of salt added in. That’s why it’s best to taste this recipe and adjust salt from there.
