Bisquick Cheddar Biscuits

These are some seriously tender biscuits! Easy Bisquick Cheddar Biscuits are loaded with shredded cheddar and topped with garlic butter for the perfect quick side dish.

I love a good dinnertime shortcut, and these Bisquick Cheddar Biscuits are seriously EASY!

You just need five ingredients to create soft, buttery, cheesy biscuits. And, they are very similar to the Cheddar Bay Biscuits from Red Lobster (who doesn’t love those?!).

The shortcut is Bisquick baking mix (also used to make The Best Bisquick Peach Cobbler and Old Fashioned Zucchini Casserole). You’ll combine it with milk and shredded cheddar, bake the biscuits, then top them with garlic butter.

It’s an easy side dish that I love serving with lasagna, spaghetti, Crockpot Pork Chops, Muffin Tin Meatloaf—basically anything that goes well with rolls!

Top tips

  • Take care not to over mix the batter. Mix just until combined for the softest biscuits.
  • Use your favorite variety of shredded cheese. Colby jack, Swiss, Gruyere, and Mozzarella would all be delicious in place of the cheddar if you want to change things up.
  • Serve the biscuits warm straight from the oven!

  • You’ll need 2 cups of Bisquick baking mix.
  • We’ll add lots of shredded cheddar (sub your favorite shredded cheese).
  • Milk creates the biscuit dough.
  • A mixture of butter and garlic powder gets brushed on top.

How to make easy Bisquick Cheddar Biscuits

Place the baking mix, shredded cheddar, and milk in a large bowl. Mix just until combined.

Scoop 2-tablespoon sized scoops onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. I used a cookie scoop. You can also just drop spoonfuls which will result in a more rustic looking biscuit (which I love).

Bake at 425°F for 10–12 minutes, or until beginning to get golden brown on top.

While the biscuits are baking, mix together the melted butter and garlic powder.

As soon as the biscuits get out of the oven, brush them with the garlic butter.

Can I make Bisquick Cheddar Biscuits ahead?

You can bake the biscuits up to two days in advance. Store them in an airtight container. When you’re ready to serve them, warm them in a 350°F oven for 3–4 minutes, or until warmed through.

Storing the biscuits

Store Bisquick Cheddar Biscuits at room temperature for up to 5 days in a tightly sealed container.

Can I freeze Bisquick cheddar biscuits?

The biscuits also freeze beautifully. Place them in a resealable freezer bag and freeze for up to 3 months. Defrost overnight at room temperature, or wrap in foil and heat in a 350°F oven for about 15 minutes.

Variations

  • Substitute your favorite variety of shredded cheese in place of the cheddar (like colby jack, gruyere, Swiss, Italian blend, Mexican blend, etc.)
  • Stir in two sliced green onions to the dough
  • Add one tablespoon of fresh herbs to the batter, such as parsley or thyme
  • Stir in 3 strips of cooked and crumbled bacon to the dough
  • Make this recipe with gluten-free Bisquick baking mix
  • Sprinkle a little extra cheese on top before baking.
  • Make these into 6 biscuits (instead of 10–12) for large biscuits.

Easy Bisquick Cheddar Biscuits

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups Bisquick baking mix
  • cup milk
  • cup shredded cheddar
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter melted
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 425°F. Place parchment paper or a silicone baking mat on a sheet pan.
  • In a large bowl, stir together the Bisquick, milk, and cheddar until a dough forms. Drop the dough into 2 tablespoon sized mounds onto the baking sheet. You’ll get 8–10 biscuits.
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  • While the biscuits are baking, stir together the melted butter and garlic powder. Brush the mixture over the biscuits as soon as they get out of the oven.
  • Serve while warm.

Notes

Do not over mix the dough, or the biscuits won’t be as soft! 
Variations: add 2 sliced green onions, 3 strips of crumbled cooked bacon, and/or 1 tablespoon of fresh herbs (like parsley or thyme) to the dough. 
The biscuits will keep at room temperature for 4–5 days in a tightly sealed container. You can also freeze them for up to 3 months
Re-warm biscuits by placing them in a 350°F oven for 3–4 minutes.
