How to Make Oreo Sunflower Cupcakes
These are the basic steps for making decorated cupcakes. Please refer to the recipe card below for more detailed instructions and nutritional facts.
STEP 1: BAKE
First, bake cupcakes per recipe on box and cool completely. It is important that they are cooled completely because if the icing melts as you are piping it onto the top surface it will all eventually slide off and create a gooey mess!
STEP 2:FROSTING
Meanwhile, in a bowl mix white frosting with yellow food coloring to make a deep yellow color. Then, place frosting in piping bag with a Wilton #70 tip to make the petals. You can also see the information below for how to make leaves without the Wilton tip!
STEP 3: COOKIE
Place a small dab of frosting directly in the center of the cupcake and place the mini Oreo on top. Icing as glue…who doesn’t love that part of decorating cakes and cupcakes?!

STEP 4: PETALS
Finally, pipe petals from the cookie outward all the way around the cupcake. Make them in layers to create a gorgeous effect that looks just like a sunflower would with petals growing from the middle outward.
