Edible treats are my favorite. If you don’t know what to get me, you should absolutely make me (or pick me up) a snack.

And I love making them too. Any time we have a pot luck at our community’s clubhouse, I’m brainstorming for weeks about what cute treat I can bring.

If you’re the same way, then I highly recommend our Valentine’s Day Chocolate Covered Pretzels. They’re easy to make — and we actually give you instructions on how to make two versions of these Valentine’s Day pretzels in the post.

That way, they actually look like you purchased them at a store even though you made them in your own kitchen.

How To Make Valentine’s Day Chocolate Covered Pretzels:

White chocolate melted in a bowl with a fork in it.

Melt the vanilla almond bark according to the package.

The easiest way to do this is to microwave it for one minute, stir it, then microwave it for another 30 seconds, and stir again. Repeat the microwaving for 30 seconds and stirring until the vanilla almond bark is completely melted.

Drop a pretzel into the melted almond bark.

Use a fork to take the pretzel out of the almond bark. Gently tap the fork on the side of the bowl to remove any excess almond bark.

Continue until you’ve finished 18 of the pretzels.

Now it’s time to work on the other 18.

Put the melted candy melts in either a piping bag or a plastic ziptop bag (if you don’t have a piping bag).

Let all the pretzels cool completely.

Remove them from the cookie sheet and store them in an airtight container until you’re ready to serve.

Valentine’s Day Chocolate Covered Pretzels: Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take for chocolate covered pretzels to dry?

Chocolate covered pretzels will take 10 to 20 minutes to dry completely. This depends on the temperature in your home when you’re making the pretzels.

We suggest letting these cool on the counter. That way, the chocolate will dry a consistent color.

Cooling chocolate in the fridge runs the risk of it discoloring as it cools. That doesn’t look great. So, any time we can, we suggest cooling melted chocolate on the counter. It won’t discolor that way.

Can you use white chocolate chips instead of vanilla almond bark?

Vanilla almond bark is preferable because of how it melts. You melt it in the microwave. If it hardens when you’re still using it, you can just microwave it again.

You can’t treat white chocolate chips in the same way. Once they reharden, that’s that. If you try to melt them again, you risk burning them. And then your chocolate won’t ever cover the pretzels. So avoid using chocolate chips if you can.

If that’s all you have, you can make white chocolate chips work. But vanilla almond bark will work better.

Do you need to use a silicone baking mat?

If you don’t have a silicone baking mat, I highly recommend you get one. You can use it for lots of things, not just baking.

What’s great about the silicone baking mat is that the chocolate pretzels will pop right off the baking mat after the chocolate has cooled.

If you just cool the chocolate pretzels directly on a cookie sheet, you run the risk of it getting stuck, not popping off, and getting ruined.

How long will chocolate dipped pretzels last?

Chocolate covered pretzels that are stored in an airtight container in the fridge will last about to two weeks.

That’s great because it means that you can make these now and they’ll still be fresh for Valentine’s Day.

Can you use pretzel rods to make chocolate covered pretzels?

I used pretzel twists in this chocolate covered pretzels recipe because they’re cute and look great as a Valentine’s Day treat.

If you wanted to use pretzel rods, though, you could absolutely do that.

The method is similar in that you’ll want to dip the pretzels, but you don’t want to dip the whole thing. Leave a piece at the end for a handle.

Then, cover it in sprinkles or in red candy melts.

How should you package chocolate covered pretzels?

If you’re giving these Valentine’s Day chocolate covered pretzels as a gift, you have two main ways to package them.

First, you can put some paper shred in the bottom of a plastic treat bag, add some pretzels, and then tie with a ribbon. That way isn’t air tight, though, so you will want to tell your recipient to either eat them quickly or store them in a container.

Your second option is to put paper shred in the bottom of a plastic container (like from Chinese take out). Layer the chocolate covered pretzels on top of the paper shred, then close the top on it. That way will keep the pretzels fresher longer than the treat bag way.
