How To Make Cheddar Garlic Pull Apart Muffins:

Preheat the oven to 350 F.

A refrigerated biscuit cut into six pieces.

Cut each of the refrigerated biscuits in six pieces and put the pieces in a large bowl.

Cheddar cheese and biscuit pieces in a bowl.

Shred the cheese.

A block of cheese works better in this instance than bagged shredded cheese. It will melt better than bagged cheese will.

Add the cheese to the biscuits.

Cheese, garlic, oil, and biscuits in a bowl.

Grate the garlic.

If you don’t have a garlic grater, you can chop the garlic instead. But you get a stronger garlic taste if you grate the garlic.

Add the grated garlic to the biscuits.

Drizzle with half the olive oil and seasoning.

Biscuit dough pieces and cheese in a bowl.

Stir until combined.

Add the rest of the olive oil and seasoning, and stir some more, making sure the ingredients are evenly distributed.

If you stir with your hands, you’ll distribute the garlic and cheese better.

Raw biscuit dough pieces and cheese in a muffin pan.

Put four pieces of the refrigerated biscuit each cavity of a non-stick muffin pan.

The best way to do this is to put one piece in each of the 12 cavities, then put a second in each, a third, and finally the fourth. If you put four at once, you may end up getting pieces that are really sticky. After they bake, they won’t really pull apart in the way that you want it to.

Top with any remaining cheese and garlic from the bowl.

Cooked biscuit dough pieces and cheese in a muffin pan.

Bake for about 15 minutes.

Remove the pan from the oven when the tops and edges start to brown.

Let the cheesy garlic pull apart muffins cool slightly before removing them from the pan.

Cheddar Garlic Pull Apart Muffins: Frequently Asked Questions

Can you use shredded cheese instead of shredding the cheese?

Bagged shredded cheese has preservatives added to it which allow it to stay as individual pieces and not turn into one big clump of cheese in the bag. That’s helpful for packaging and selling, but not for melting.

When you try to melt shredded cheese, it doesn’t melt as well as when you shred your own block cheese because of those preservatives.

This recipe is best when the cheese melts, so we suggest shredding your own block cheese rather than using shredded cheese.

Do you have to use refrigerated biscuits?

The easiest way to make these Cheddar Garlic Pull Apart Muffins is with refrigerated biscuits. If you don’t want to use refrigerated biscuits, you do have options.

You can use a store-bought pizza dough. Cut that into small cubes, then follow the rest of this recipe as written.

You could also use 2 Ingredient Dough. I actually have made Cheesy Garlic Dough Balls with 2 Ingredient Dough. It’s similar to this recipe, in that it uses similar ingredients, but that makes one large pull apart dough ball, rather than these individual muffins.

I’m sure you could make a batch of 2 Ingredient Dough, cube it, then use it to make this recipe. But, using homemade dough instead of store-bought refrigerated dough, you may have to adjust your cooking time.

How do you store leftover Cheddar Garlic Pull Apart Muffins?

If you have any leftover Cheddar Garlic Pull Apart Muffins, store them in an air tight container in the fridge. They’ll last up to a week in the fridge. Probably even longer, honestly, but we never have leftovers for that long.

How do you reheat Cheddar Garlic Pull Apart Muffins?

If you have an air fryer, that’s the easiest way to reheat any leftover Cheddar Garlic Pull Apart Muffins. Set the air fryer to 370 and heat them for five minutes, shaking the basket at four minutes.

If you don’t have an air fryer, you can reheat leftover Cheddar Garlic Pull Apart Muffins in the oven at 350 for 10 minutes.

We don’t recommend reheating leftovers in the microwave. They’ll get soggy and won’t taste very good.

Is pull apart bread the same thing as monkey bread?

We call these pull apart muffins because they’re muffins that you pull apart as you eat them. You pull off one of the four pieces, eat it, and then pull off a second piece, eat that, etc.

That’s similar to how you eat monkey bread. Monkey bread was named that because pulling a piece off the entire loaf was similar to how monkeys eat.

Most monkey bread is made in a Bundt pan, not in individual servings like these muffins.

If you want, you can call these cheddar garlic monkey bread muffins, but that’s sort of a misnomer.

It seems to be true that the simplest recipes are always the best. I am going to try these and I think they would also be great just to keep for something to grab and eat while I'm doing computer work. Thanks so much for sharing.
