Christmas Tree Cheesy Breadsticks

Christmas Time

It’s Christmas time again! We thought we would take it upon ourselves to join the latest trend and make our version of Christmas Tree Cheesy Breadsticks. Here, we used a cream cheese and mozzarella mixture with sauteed garlic, cremini mushrooms, fresh parsley and basil, and served with a marinara dipping sauce.

Of note, feel free to use either premade pizza dough or check out our recipe for Balsamic-Glazed Caramelized Pear & Prosciutto Pizza to find out how to make your own pizza dough!

Ingredients

  • Homemade pizza dough (or two Trader Joe's Italian herbs pizza doughs combined)
  • 8 oz package crimini mushroom diced
  • 8 oz package cream cheese
  • ¼ cup shredded mozzarella
  • Garlic minced
  • Butter
  • ¼ cup chopped basil
  • ¼ cup chopped flat leaf parsley
  • Marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 Celsius)
  • Saute diced mushrooms with some butter and oil for 5 minutes, then add about 3 cloves minced garlic and saute for another 5 minutes. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine cream cheese, mozzarella, and chopped basil and parsley. Mix in the mushroom mixture until thoroughly combined.
  • Roll out the pizza dough into a large rectangle. Start at the middle of the top edge of the rectangle and make a cut extending down to the bottom right corner. Do the same from the top middle down to the bottom left corner. Now you have a triangle.
  • Spoon over the cream cheese mixture onto this triangle. With the remaining two triangles, combine them at the middle to make an identical triangle to the one you already created and place it over the first triangle with cream cheese mixture in between the triangles.
  • Starting at the top of the triangle and making your way down, make horizontal cuts on both sides but keeping about 1 inch in the middle un-cut. Now go back to each “branch” and twist it a few times.
  • Cook in the oven for about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, saute 3 more cloves of minced garlic in 2 tbsp butter until slightly golden. Let cool and add some extra parsley into this garlic/butter mixture. Heat up the marinara sauce. When the dough is ready, brush over some of the butter mixture and serve warm with the marinara.
