David found this recipe for an easy pizza sauce on the Ooni website which is the basis of this sauce, but it has since disappeared from the site, so we thought it would be good to publish it here with our twist…chilli flakes!
Last year I bought David an Ooni* pizza oven for his birthday, not surprisingly, as given half the chance David would eat pizza every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner!!
(*Note: on 17 July 2018 the company officially changed it's name to Ooni from its previous name of Uuni)

David's First Ooni* Pizza Oven
So, make this easy pizza sauce and then get out in the garden, cook pizza...here's the recipe for pizza dough...and enjoy!!
Ingredients
- 1 clove garlic thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 400g can chopped tomatoes
- 0.5 tbsp sugar
- 0.5 tsp dried oregano
- freshly ground black pepper
- 0.5 tsp dried basil
- 0.5 tbsp chilli flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a sauce pan, add the sliced garlic and fry on a low heat for a couple of minutes taking care not to burn the garlic.
- Add the can of tomatoes, salt, sugar, oregano, basil, a few grinds of black pepper and chilli flakes (if using) and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. Taste for seasoning.
- Either use the sauce as is or if you prefer, blend it for a smoother sauce.
