Philly Cheesesteak Sliders are filled with ground beef, gooey cheese, peppers, and onion. This easy Philly Cheesesteak Sliders recipe is perfect for a game day snack, but no one will complain if you serve them up for a weeknight dinner either!

If sliders had a season, it would definitely be Fall. Summer is all about grilling big meaty burgers outside, but once football season starts, those little handheld sandwiches are in high demand.

I’ve shared Buffalo Chicken Sliders, Ham and Swiss Cheese Sliders, Cheeseburger Sliders, and BBQ Meatball Sliders in the past, but this slider recipe is for anyone who loves a good Philly Cheesesteak—which is just about everyone, right? Although I made these with game day in mind, my family gobbles them up for dinner too, especially with a side of potato salad.

Easy Philly Cheesesteak Sliders Recipe

This recipe for Philly Cheesesteak Sliders starts with ground chuck that’s browned with diced green bell peppers and onions, then simmered in Worcestershire sauce to amp up the flavor. Melty provolone adds some ooey-gooey goodness; once the meat and cheese are piled onto the slider buns, the tops are brushed with garlic butter to take these cheesesteak sliders to the next level. Ooh yes.

You totally need to make this recipe, whether it’s for a game day get-together or a dinner the whole family will love. And then make my Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls or Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes too!

How to Make Philly Cheesesteak Sliders

1. Prepare

Preheat the oven to 350ºF and split your slider buns, placing the bottoms in a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Cook the Filling

Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat, then add the onions, peppers, and garlic. Once the veggies are softened, add the ground chuck and brown it in the skillet until it’s no longer pink. Drain off the grease, then add the Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper; simmer for 10 minutes.

3. Assemble the Philly Cheesesteak Sliders

Divide the meat mixture onto the buns, then top it with the provolone. Spread the mayo onto the undersides of the top half of the buns and place them onto the sliders.

4. Brush with Garlic Butter

Combine the melted butter and garlic powder in a small bowl, then brush it over the tops of the buns.

5. Bake the Sliders

Cover the pan with foil and bake the sliders for 10 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes. The cheese will be melted and the tops of the buns will be golden brown and toasted.

Variations

  • Philly-Style – Although American cheese and provolone are all options for Philly Cheesesteak Sliders, in Philadelphia, the sandwich is often made with Cheez Whiz. If you’re after authenticity, you can use that instead of cheese slices.
  • Deluxe – If, on the other hand, you don’t care about being authentic, you can add caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, and other toppings to your Philly Cheesesteak Sliders.
  • Subs – Making these for a dinner instead of an appetizer? Feel free to swap the slider rolls for sub rolls instead.

FAQ

What sides go with Philly cheesesteak sliders?

Homemade steak fries (or your favorite store-bought frozen fries) are the perfect side for Philly Cheesesteak Sliders, but an easy deli-style salad like pasta salad, coleslaw, or macaroni salad is good too. Even a handful of potato chips on the side works since the cheesesteaks are so filling on their own!

What kind of meat is used for Philly cheesesteak?

Ribeye and flank steak are typical choices, but for these sliders, I use ground chuck because it’s easier to fit on small slider buns!

What’s the difference between a cheesesteak and a Philly cheesesteak?

An authentic Philly cheesesteak is usually made with sliced beef, with or without griddled onions, and Cheez Whiz.

Top Tip

Make sure you drain the meat mixture well, then simmer it in the Worcestershire sauce until it’s thickened. Otherwise, the bottoms of the slider buns will get soggy.
