Kombucha Bread

Kombucha Bread

This kombucha bread could not get anymore easy and delicious. It has a crisp crust with a light and fluffy center. If you have ever heard of beer bread, this is similar but made with kombucha. The idea is you don’t have to let the bread rise because the kombucha or beer already has the fermented yeast. All you have to do is mix everything in one bowl and bake it. It is a perfect pairing with soup, salads, chili, any source of protein, literally anything you can think of. My favorite recipes to have with this bread are my tortilla soup or my white chicken chilli. When I was younger my mom had a bread machine and would make homeade bread from a box that kind of tasted like a better version of the sweet Hawaiian rolls. It had this amazing crust with a fluffy middle that just soaked up all the flavors. That bread had to cook all day long! This bread takes just about an hour and a half from start to finish, which is very fast for bread, and reminds me of that bread my mom use to make.

Ingredients

The kombucha bread starts with the flour. For this recipe I used cake flour to keep it nice and fluffy. If all purpose flour is all you have that should work just fine, but the bread just might be a little more dense. Then you need baking powder which is the key to activating the yeast. For the hint of sweetness I added a little monk fruit sweetener or sugar and just a bit of honey. It was just the perfect touch of sweetness to the dough. Then last but not least is the kombucha. Make sure to get an original flavor because the other will make the bread taste funky. After you mix everything together and pour the batter in the loaf pan, then you must add the best part of the bread in my opinion. I melted some butter and coconut cream for a little extra lightness. Pour that right on top of the batter, and then you just bake. It is definitely best served hot right out of the oven with a little butter, but you can always just warm it up if you have leftovers.

This bread has seriously become one of my new favorite additions to my meals. I could eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. With breakfast I just put some nut butter and maybe a little extra honey. For lunch I will usually warm it up to eat it with a salad or soup. With dinner it could go with just about anything. I love the nostalgic feeling I get after making this recipe from watching that bread maker make homeade bread all day when I was little. I’m so excited to share this recipe with you all and I hope that it brings as much joy to your family as it does mine.
