DIY Electrolyte Drink

It’s easier than you might think to make your own DIY electrolyte drink. With just a few simple and natural ingredients you can give yourself a much needed hydration boost and it only takes two minutes to make!

Benefits of DIY Electrolyte Drink

Just some of the amazing benefits of this DIY electrolyte drink include:

  • Affordable – save money on sports drinks and powders. Some can be very expensive!
  • Completely natural – We are using pure ingredients to make this, how cool!
  • Preservative free – those suckers can’t be good for us so I like to avoid wherever possible.
  • Sugar free – Unlike gatorade and other popular ‘hydration’ drinks this recipe is totally free from added sugars and even with the natural lime juice is still keto friendly.

Why I love this drink

Love to DIY?

Suffering a hangover after a few too many vinos? Caught the lurgy and struggling to keep up with your fluids? Recovering from a bought of food poisoning? Yes, this DIY electrolyte drink will be your best friend in any of those circumstances but it can also be used on days when you just feel a little bit, bleh!

You see, contrary to what many of us might think, our bodies are not really hydrated by the water we drink. I know, shocking! It is the MINERALS in the water that actually hydrate our body and unfortunately our tap water is often lacking in these important minerals.

So even if you aren’t held up on the couch with a hangover, food poisoning or the neighbourhood lurgy, you could still do with a little hydration boost from time to time with this natural electrolyte drink.

Whilst I am in the midst of gut healing protocol 2.0, I’m trying to drink this daily to help keep things moving with my yucky guts (yes I’m still constipated as we speak) but also to hydrate and give my body a nutrient boost as it is currently working in overdrive trying to clear out all of the toxins and bad bacteria.

I like to make it pretty with a reusable glass straw from Seastraws. These environmentally friendly, clear, glass straws are my go-to and every purchase contributes to saving the Great Barrier Reef. Use code BLONDE for a little discount.

Ingredients for DIY Electrolyte Drink

It’s really nothing fancy here folks, you literally only need three ingredients:

Celtic Sea Salt – Celtic sea salt is pure, unrefined and contains 76 trace minerals which help to remineralise and hydrate the body. It does not contain any harsh chemicals and it is raw, never processed like regular table salt. I buy this online from Amazon, linked here but you can usually find it in most health food stores.

Fresh Lime – Limes are high in vitamin C and antioxidants while also providing anti-inflammatory benefits. Fresh is best and the only way here. Please don’t use the bottled crap from the supermarket.

Filtered Water – My preference is sparkling water because it feels fancy fresh. I always use filtered water from our Heppi jug and then add gas with the soda stream.

How to DIY Electrolyte Drink

  • 1/4 tsp celtic sea salt
  • Juice of 1/2 lime
  • 1 cup filtered water (still or sparkling)

Measure your celtic sea salt into a glass, squeeze in the lime juice and top with water, add ice if desired (I like it extra cold).

Why use Celtic sea salt?

Celtic sea salt is a bit of hero ingredient here being completely natural, it supports overall health, energy production and healthy digestion. I suggest popping into your local health food store and replacing your regular table salt with celtic sea salt.
