Sharing is caring!

This is, in my opinion, the best homemade guacamole recipe due to the simplicity and quality of the ingredients and the perfect balance of flavours. Guacamole dip is an ideal appetizer served with tortilla chips, crackers or even toast, and with a glass of margarita, it is delightful!

If we search through Mexican cuisine, we will see that guacamole is one of the most representative recipes, spread first in the United States and then to the rest of the world. The recipe I present now is very close to the original one, which only contains avocado, sea salt, lime juice, cilantro and jalapeño.

Starting from this recipe, I will make some changes and bring guacamole closer to my tastes, resulting in a very delicious dip.

Ingredients

Best Homemade Guacamole Recipe-Ingredients

The guacamole recipe’s main ingredient is avocado, from which I will use three pieces of ripe avocados and make a dip for three people. I will add cayenne pepper, lemon juice, half a red onion, a handful of chives, and a little extra virgin olive oil.

As you can see, I will not use coriander because I belong to those who do not like this ingredient. I replaced it with chives, and I will add a little chopped parsley at the end.

Preparing the Ingredients

Preparing the ingredients does not take long, and I start with the avocados that I cut in half and remove the seeds. I peeled the red onion, cut the cayenne pepper in half lengthwise, and removed the seeds to temper their spiciness.

Frequently Ask Questions (F.A.Q.)

Are limes or lemons better for homemade guacamole?

Both limes and lemons can be used to make guacamole, but traditionally limes are the preferred choice. Limes have a more acidic and tart flavour than lemons, which complements avocado’s creamy and rich taste.

How do you make guacamole so it will taste better?

The key to good guacamole is using perfectly ripe avocados. Look for slightly soft avocados when gently pressed on them but not mushy. Use fresh and high-quality ingredients, such as fresh cilantro, ripe tomatoes, and red onions, to give your guacamole a delicious and authentic taste.

How do Mexican restaurants keep guacamole from turning brown?

The most common method is to add plenty of lime or lemon juice to the guacamole. The acid in the citrus juice helps slow the oxidation process, which causes the guacamole to turn brown. Some restaurants may add other acidic ingredients, such as vinegar or salsa, to help keep the guacamole fresh.

Serving the Guacamole

The easiest way is to serve it in a bowl with crackers or tortilla chips. To soak in this dip, you can also toast some bread and cut it into sticks. So delicious!
