Learn how to make Jello shots with vodka in this easy recipe! This is the perfect drink for summer or for a party.

How To Make Jello Shots

The instructions are so simple! All you have to do is pour the Jell-O into a large bowl, then pour boiling the water over top. Whisk to mix, then add the cold water and alcohol, and whisk again. Use a liquid measuring cup or turkey baster to transfer the mixture to small plastic containers, then refrigerate until they’re set.

Fun Adaptations

One of the most popular alterations with jello shots is to make layered shots. These are especially great if you make ones that are red, white, and blue for the 4th of July or orange, white, and yellow to make candy corn ones for Halloween.

If you don’t have plastic cups to make the shots in, you can pour the mixture into a nonstick rimmed baking sheet. Once it sets, you can cut it into individual cubes for serving.

What’s The Best Alcohol To Use?

Vodka is the classic alcohol to use in jello shots. You can also use flavored alcohols that pair with the jello you choose. For example, the fruity flavors in Malibu Rum can pair really well some of the Jell-O flavors. Please consume alcohol responsibly.

Despite the name, please don’t try to take these like a shot all in one mouthful – you could choke. It’s much better to loosen the edges with your finger or a butter knife, then bite off a piece.

How Long Do They Take To Set?

Depending on the size of the jello shot, these will take anywhere from 1 1/2 hours to 2 1/2 hours to fully set in the fridge.

How Long Do They Last?

Jello shots are their best for 3 – 5 days after making them. So you can definitely make them a bit in advance to save time, but it’s best if you can make them only a day or two in advance.

How Long Do They Last Out Of The Fridge?

Jello shots really need to be refrigerated, so they won’t last very long out of the fridge. I wouldn’t count on more than 30 – 45 minutes in warm weather.

Can You Freeze Them?

Yes, you can freeze jello shots. They will be noticeably firmer, but they won’t freeze solid. Just know that the texture won’t be as smooth – it’ll be a bit grainy.

  1. I love jell-o shots & make the often. But instead of refrigerating for over an hour. I put in freezer for 30 mins.. & they turn out great. I set a timer. & instead of 1/2 c water & 1/2 cup vodka…I use 1 cup Vodka…Flavored Vodka adds “wow” to the shots..❤UrPosts

      • I put the lids on then turn them upside down so the airport is on the bottom. Now you don’t have to dog them out with your tongue when you eat them. Just aqueeze or stick your tongue in one side and it falls in.
