This blood orange martini made from fresh blood orange juice, vodka and triple sec tastes just as delicious as it looks.
I love cocktails using fresh fruit - from a mango mojito to a passion fruit margarita to a bourbon peach smash to a raspberry martini to blackberry margaritas to a peach daiquiri.
But to me the classic cocktail is the martini. And while this blood orange martini might not be a "classic" it is well on its way to becoming one.
It is one of those drinks that is just stunning to look at. The color created from the blood orange juice mixed with vodka and triple sec create an orange/pinkish hue.
You get some tartness from the fresh juice that is offset by a slight sweetness from the honey. And the fact that it takes just 4 ingredients to make this is even better. Oh and if you're looking for another refreshing martini, you can never go wrong with a limoncello martini.

Ingredients Notes
- Vodka - use quality vodka like Grey Goose or Belvedere.
- Blood oranges - you want fresh juice for this martini so take the time to squeeze some blood oranges to make it. You can also try passion fruit for a passion fruit martini.
- Triple sec - an orange liquor that complements the blood oranges.
- Honey - adds a little sweetness which offsets some of the bitterness. You can also use sugar or create a simple syrup.
Step-by-Step Photos
Combine the vodka, juice and triple sec in a cocktail shaker with ice. Microwave honey for 5 seconds and add to shaker and shake for 20 seconds.
Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a blood orange slice.
FAQs
The taste can vary by the type but blood oranges typically have a floral or tart flavor. There might also be some additional flavors like raspberries, cranberries or fruit punch.
Blood oranges are in season from December through May typically so if you are wanting to make this during the summer or fall you will have to some blood orange juice which can be found at grocery stores.
I don't use simple syrup in this recipe to avoid the extra step. Plus I like the flavor of the honey.
But if you want to make your own simple syrup, you boil equal amounts of water and sugar until the sugar is dissolved.
I know not everyone has cocktail shakers. Just add your ingredients for the martini to a mug with some ice, screw the lid on tightly and start shaking.

Hey this was so good and easy to make. Used Blood orange juice from Lancaster,Pa unpasteurized bought at Reading Terminal Market in downtown Philly . Used simple syrup instead of honey. My wife is my taster. If she says “ good” then it is. And it was. Definitely becomes part of my popular drinks.
