How Do You Thicken Sloppy Joes?

If you made Sloppy Joes with ground pork or sausage meat chances, are you have a lot of fat from the meat. You can drain the meat after you brown it in a cast-iron skillet. When you omit this step, you may end up with runny Sloppy Joe.

You can thicken Sloppy Joe by adding either cornstarch or arrowroot. When you use cornstarch take a bowl and start with 1 tablespoon water and 1 tablespoon cornstarch.

Stir together and then add to the Sloppy Joe. Combine the cornstarch mixture with the meat on medium heat and the sauce will thicken. Use more cornstarch mixture if the sauce remains runny.

When you use arrowroot start with 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of water. Stir to combine before adding it to the beef mixture. Keep stirring and see it thicken.

Add more arrowroot water mixture if the sauce remains runny. If the sauce gets too thick add more water.
