Sweet Soy Pork Spare Ribs In An Instant
If I have the time, I cook my ribs on the barbecue. Slowly cooking the ribs infusing them with a smokey flavor of the barbecue is amazing.
But unfortunately, we not always have the time or the weather for outdoor cooking then the Instant Pot is a great alternative.
The Instant Pot is great to turn pork ribs soft and tender in a fraction of the time.
Use this amazing pork rib marinade in this recipe and a simple rub to get delicious ribs.
Instant Pot Pork Ribs Ingredients
To make these ribs you need quite some ingredients so put the following items on your grocery shopping list:
- Pork ribs
- Scallions chopped
- Pork rib marinade
Spice Rub
- Homemade Chili powder
- Smoked paprika
- Garlic powder
- Dried parsley
- Salt
- Pepper
How To Make Instant Pot Pork Ribs
To make this recipe start with removing the membrane from the back of your pork ribs.
Take a sharp knife, slide it under the membrane to peel it lose then take a paper towel to lift the membrane from a corner.
Pull it away along the length of the ribs.
Then combine the spice rub ingredients in a small bowl. Mix with a small spoon to combine.
Rub ⅔ of the spice rub on the ribs, then turn and rub the remaining seasoning on the other side of the ribs.
Now brush the pork rib marinade for grilling on the meat side of the pork ribs.
Place a trivet rack in your Instant Pot. Add a cup of water and 2 tablespoons of pork rib marinade.
Put the ribs on top of the trivet with the meaty side curled facing outwards.
Close the lid on the Instant Pot and secure. Put the valve in the sealing position.
Set to manual and pressure cook on for 25 minutes.
Natural release for 10 minutes, then use the quick release valve to release the remaining pressure.
Preheat the oven to broil. Put the ribs in a baking tray.
Brush the pork rib marinade on the ribs and broil for 4 – 6 minutes until the sauce on top bubbles and caramelizes.
If desired brush more marinade on the ribs and return into oven for a couple of minutes.
Watch closely as the marinade can burn easily. Serve immediately

Yes, you can make these ribs ahead of time and serve them when needed.
There are a number of ways to store your ribs when you prepared them in the Instant Pot.
How To Store Sweet Ribs
Depending on when you want to serve the ribs you have various options to store them:
- Refrigerator – when you prepared the ribs you can store them in the fridge. Let them cool completely and either put them in an airtight food container, Ziploc bag or aluminium foil. Store them in the fridge for up to 3 days
- Freezer – when you want to store them longer you can store them in the freezer. Again, cool completely and put the ribs in a food container or Ziploc bag for up to 3 months
How To Reheat Instant Pot Sweet Ribs
You have a number of options to reheat your ribs.
- Instant Pot – to reheat your ribs repeat the cooking procedure in the Instant Pot. Put the trivet in the pot. Add a cup of water. Close the lid and secure. Seal the valve and pressure cook on high for 5 minutes. Quick release
- Oven – Preheat your oven to 350℉ and put the ribs meat side down on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Heat for 10 minutes, turn and warm for another 5 minutes. If your ribs are really brown and dark wrap them in aluminium foil and warm for 15 minutes turning them half way through
