How To Store Broccoli
There are two ways to keep your broccoli fresh:
- Flower method – just like a bouquet of flowers you can store your broccoli in a similar way. Cut the base from broccoli, take a vase and fill it with water. Put the broccoli so it can soak up all that water
- Fridge method – you can also store broccoli in the fridge using the paper towel method. Remove any plastic wrap from the broccoli and take a piece of paper towel. Sprinkle with water to dampen the towel. Wrap the towel around the broccoli and put it in the vegetable drawer. Do not wash the broccoli before storing it can encourage the growth of mold
Can You Freeze Broccoli?
Yes, you can freeze broccoli but you have to perform a number of additional steps.
Take a pan with water and bring it to a boil. Cut the broccoli and add them to the pan. Blanche/ cook on a low simmer for 2 minutes.
Drain the broccoli using a colander or mesh strainer.
Take a bowl with ice cold water and add the cooked broccoli to stop the cooking process.
Leave the broccoli in the water for 3 minutes as well. When the broccoli is just as cold as the water, drain any excess water.
Pour the broccoli on a clean kitchen towel or use a paper towel to dry any excess water.
Put the broccoli in a food container or Ziplock bag. Label and put them in the freezer for up to 1 year.
How Long Is Broccoli Good For?
You can keep broccoli between 3 to 7 days depending on how fresh the broccoli is when you buy it.
