Garam Masala Recipe
If you love a good curry, you need this Indian garam masala spice blend. Just like with a lot of seasoning recipes, there is no one seasoning recipe as it changes from region to region and family to family.
That is what I love about cooking in general and seasoning recipes in particular. You can do whatever you like.
You add the spices you love and omit whatever you do not like. I always try to stay close to the original first before I start to mix it up.
Indian Spices You Need In Your Pantry
If you love to cook Indian dishes you need at least the following spices in your pantry:
- Cinnamon
- Coriander Seeds
- Cumin Seeds
- Black Pepper
- Cardamom
- Chilli Peppers
- Ginger
- Turmeric
You can use the ground variety but you can also buy the whole spices and grind them into a powder using a pestle and mortar. When you ground the spices to powder you will be blown away by all the aromatic flavors that release.
How To Store Garam Masala
The best way to store this Garam Masala is in glass jars like these super cute glass spice jars.
It is important that you can seal these glass jars tightly to protect the spice mix.
After you have combined the spices you can store them in your kitchen cabinet, spice drawer, or pantry.
Do not store your spice blend on your kitchen counter because sunlight has an effect on the color of your seasoning.
So, to keep your seasoning fresh store it in a dark place.
How Long Does Garam Masala Last?
It lasts half a year. Opposed to other seasoning garam masala will lose its potency very quickly.
This seasoning doesn’t spoil but the flavors will lose their intensity.
So, it is best to make this seasoning when you know you are using it within a few weeks up to 6 months.
