Prepare Applesauce Quickly With A Pressure Cooker
I love homegrown apples. Every year it is a surprise to so how many or few apples we yield from our tree.
In the last couple of years, it was about half a bucket per tree which is nothing near what we had a couple of years ago.
Buckets and buckets filled to the rim with apples. I never made so many apple cakes and apple pie that year.
And this applesauce. It just tastes so much better when you get fresh apples without pesticides.
I peel the apples but you can leave the skin on if you want. Keep all the nutrients inside your sauce.
All you need to do is core the apples and you are ready to go. So, get your Instant Pot, Crock-Pot Express, or any other pressure cooker out of your kitchen cabinet.
Instant Pot Applesauce Ingredients
You hardly need any ingredients to make this homemade applesauce. Put the following ingredients on your grocery shopping list:

- Water
How To Make Instant Pot Chunky Applesauce
To make this applesauce recipe you can either wash, cut them in quarters, and core the apples.
If you plan on peeling the apples you can skip washing the apples. Peel, core, and cut the apples in quarters.
Put the cleaned apples, water, lemon juice, brown sugar (optional), and cinnamon in your Instant Pot.
You can intensify the flavor by adding a pinch of salt to the apples. This also optional and not necessary for delicious applesauce.
Now close the lid of your Instant Pot and turn the release valve to sealing.
Select the Manual or Pressure cook but and for 4 minutes. When the cooking time is done quick release the Instant Pot to remove all the pressure from the pot.
Take the lid of the Instant and stir the chunky applesauce. Due to condensation, you will have excess water in the pot.
Drain excess water by pouring the chunky applesauce into a mesh strainer. This kitchen maid mesh strainer is what I use and indestructible.
Return the applesauce into the bowl and serve immediately.
If you want to preserve it longer let the sauce cool completely and scoop the sauce in glass jars like these super cute mason jars glass jar.
How To Store Applesauce?
The best way to store applesauce is to not store and eat it straight away. This sauce tastes so good when it is warm and soft.
But you can store it in various ways:
- Room temperature – when you plan on serving the sauce the same day you can keep it in an airtight container at room temperature
- Refrigerator – you can also store the sauce in the fridge. Either in glass jars or scoop it in an airtight container
- Freezer – applesauce also freezes really well. If you have a large portion divide it before you freeze it. Label the sauce and store it for up to 2 months in the freezer
Can I Use Applesauce In Baking?
Applesauce is a great ingredient to use as a substitute for butter or eggs when baking.
It adds moisture to your baked goods. To get a soft and fluffy texture you can add 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder to prevent cakes or muffins to go dense.
Especially when you want to eat vegan you can use this applesauce.
Take a look at these vegan muffins over on the Tortilla Channel that are made with applesauce.
