The Best Vegan Cheese Sauce

Have you ever tried vegan cheese sauce? Us never! We were not convinced that regular cheese can be substituted with something vegan! Guess what? Not just that it can be, but it tastes even better! For today’s recipes we are sharing with you our absolutely favorite dip ever – The Best Vegan Cheese Sauce.

For this recipe we used raw cashews. That’s very important, you cannot use roasted or any other cashews. When soaked and blended they give super creamy texture. Nutritional yeast is the one that give the cheesy taste. We used mix of turmeric and smoked paprika to reach the right color. All the ingredients that we used were completely natural, which makes this amazing dip the healthiest cheese sauce ever!
Vegan Cheese Sauce
We recommend storing the sauce in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. But if you made a whole bunch of it, you can easily freeze it as well.

This recipe is 100% vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free.

Preparing Vegan Cheese Sauce
Prep time: 2 – 8 h   Cook time: 5 min   Total: 2 – 8 h 5 min   Servings: 8




 

 

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/2 cups (220 g) raw cashews 
  • 1/4 cup (15 g) nutritional yeast
  • 3/4 cup (180 ml) almond milk (+ 1/4 (60 ml) if necessary)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Himalayan salt, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder (we used mixed garlic and onion powder)
  • 1/2 teaspoons smoked paprika

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Soak the cashews in 4-5 cups of water for at least 2 hours. We left ours overnight. When done, drain and rinse the cashews.
  • Into a food processor (or high speed blender) add drained cashews, 3/4 cup almond milk, and all the rest of the ingredients. Process until smooth and creamy. Add 1/4 almond milk if necessary, depending on the thickness, but make sure to add a tablespoon at a time until you reach the your desired consistency.
  • Transfer the mixture to a prepared jar or another dish.
