Egyptian Kofta or Kofta kebab is Juicy, flavorful and super easy to make. Kofta kebab is one of the most popular dishes in Egypt and the entire Mediterranean region. Basically, it is well-seasoned ground beef mixed with parsley, onion and garlic, skewered and then cooked on the stovetop.
Kofta Kebab
Traditionally, kofta kebabs are usually made with ground lamb or with a mix of ground beef and lamb. However, I made my own version by using just ground beef and it is SO good.
The ingredients for making these kofta kebabs are simple; the dish will be ready in less than 30 minutes, and it goes well with many side dishes such as salads, hummus or bread.
Kofta Kebab Ingredients
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Ground beef: I used ground beef with 10% fat; I don't recommend using extra lean ground beef; otherwise, the kofta will turn out dry. You may use half-ground lamb and half-ground beef if you want.
Parsley: Gives a delicious flavour to the dish.
Seasonings: I used sweet paprika, cayenne pepper, ground pepper and salt.
White bun: Soaked in water for 5 minutes, then squeezed the water out of it. You can use ยผ cup breadcrumbs instead.
Onionย and garlic: Both are super goo flavouring agents for meat.
How to Make Egyptian Kofta Recipe (Kofta Kebab)
One: Finely chop the parsley, onion and garlic, soak the bun in water until it becomes mushy then take it out and squeeze the water out of it.
Two - Make the Kofta: In a bowl, mix onion, garlic, parsley, beef and the seasonings until well combined.
Three - Skewer the Kofta: Take a handful of the meat mixture and mold it on a wooden skewer. Repeat the process until all the meat is finish.
Four - Cook: Heat the grill and brush it with some oil then place kebabs on it and grill for about 7-8 minutes on each side after that remove from the grill and serve hot.
Tip: You can serve these koftas on their skewers or without.
What To Serve Kofta Kebab With
The best bread to serve with: You can serve it with pita (pitta) bread, Gyro Bread or if you like me love french bread you can serve it with baguette.
Sauce or dip: Of course the best sauce to serve with Kofta Kebab is tahini dressing; it is the perfect match with kofta. However, you can also use Sriracha Carrot Hummus or Haydari.
Salads: I like to serve it with Tomato And Onion Salad.
Side dish: The best side dish that can go so well with grilled kofta is Roasted Green Beans and Carrots.
Storage
Make ahead of time: You can mix everything together and keep it in the fridge for 1-2 days, ready to grill.
To store: After grilling the kofta, you may store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 1-4 days.
Freezing: Kofta freezes beautifully. Just wrap in 2 layers of foil pepper and put in the fridge; it will last for 1-2 months.
