I attended a bridal shower 2 weekends ago, this was the day before the bloggers CNY pot luck, why am I writing about this, cause the bride-to-be is getting married TOMORROW! Woot woot! And also to show you all the yumminess that was prepared for a somewhat high-tea cum dinner gathering…complete with a chocolate fountain! This time, there is a proper picture of it in all its glory compared to that time during Christmas.
The spread, there were; Crackers with tuna,
pineapple and cherry tomatoes,
fried calamari rings and fried chicken fingers,
veggie sticks with two types of dipping sauces
and egg-cucumber sandwich under the cloth
I made minestrone…
Orange cordial drink with longan and some
canned mixed fruit of pineapple and nata de coco
The chocolate fountain!! And all the trimmings to go
with it. If there were two fountains left in the world;
a chocolate fountain and the fountain of youth…I think I’d
go for the chocolate….who wants to live forever
without chocolate? (Then again, the fountain of youth does not
guarantee immortality, it only prolongs life
and cures diseases and….oh, whatever….)
New York Cheesecake with Strawberries
The cake chef, wearing an LA shirt, that made a NY cheesecake…. 😆
and some photo opportunists….
The bride-to-be, who just had her hair done…va va voom!
Group photo (1) All these photos belong to that long-haired maiden,

There was even a polaroid photo session!
To the bride and her groom (who’s having nervous-attacks and hyperventilating right about now), big congrats and may you have many, many happy years ahead!!! They actually dated for 7 years! Really time to move on….. 😮
While we are on the subject of love and marriage…V-day was last Tuesday. My husband and I aren’t fanatic about doing something on V-day itself, maybe because prices for everything go way up during this day…flowers, ice cream, food, desserts, chocolates…. and not to mention having to fight traffic of both cars and people. Don’t get me wrong, if we do go out and celebrate, it’s all good too but this year, it’s a quiet Tuesday.
That being said, I thought I’d cook something of his favourite but haven’t cooked in a long time. A simple fried fish meal. For the life of me, I don’t know what this fish is called, in Mandarin, Cantonese, English or BM. I only know how it looks. They’re quite small, like fresh anchovies and quite common in the wet markets. If you know the name of this fish, leave a comment below. Anyways, the fish was just dusted in some pre-seasoned flour and fried in hot oil.
This dish does have that tapas feel. Like when they split sardines open in half and fry them in a batter and then serve with some olives and oil. Mmmm. I would love to go on a food travel to Spain one day cause it has all that wonderful ingredients like saffron, pimenton, chorizo, cured ham and wine!
Hubster bought these fishes himself and I was wondering why the fishmonger had to cut off the head. And were we shortchanged because of that too? I’m not sure how much he paid for the batch of fish, it’s not overly expensive but I just wonder why they need to cut off the head.
This is how they looked like before cooking….
gutted and cleaned
SIMPLE FRIED FISH RECIPE
Ingredients;
Small fishes, good for frying and finger eating (alternatively, anchovies or sardines, gutted, scaled and cleaned)
Salt
Pre-seasoned flour, like the ones they used for fried chicken (I used this one, below)
Oil for deep frying
Steps;
1. The fish tends to have a strong smell, salt them on both sides and let them be for 30 mins.
2. After 30 mins, rinse the fish under running water and pat dry with paper towels.
3. When they are really dry, coat them in the pre-seasoned flour and dust off excess.
4. Fry in oil till crisp and brown.
5. Eat with chilli dipping sauce or garlic chilli sauce.
Enjoy!

V-day do cause traffic of both cars and people. Staying at home and having a quiet and simple dinner will be better. =)
