Recently we got into this juicing fad….not so much for the hype. My daughter for some odd reason, is SOOOO picky when it comes to fruits. She would NOT try any fruits, even something as delicious or as basic as a banana or a mango. Which puzzles me because when she was being introduced solids, she ate a lot of mashed fruits and seemed to like the taste far better than cereal or porridge.
Because of that she suffers constipation. I didn’t like the idea of juicing initially because 1. the prep, 2. I think you’re throwing away the good fibre in the fruits and 3. unless I was composting for a garden, the waste that comes out from juicing, I feel kinda sad to be throwing it away. But no choice. She was getting such bad constipation, you could compare her stools to a rabbit’s.
So I tried different fruit and vege combinations. The kids seemed to really like this one and I read from all the research that if you juice according to colours, you’re getting the extra boost of certain healthy goodness. Like say, the green is for good digestion, cholesterol busting and weight loss, the orange is for boosting your immune system, good skin and vit C, the red is antioxidant and has cancer-fighting properties. Generally I think we all know that juicing is healthy and good for you so I tried different combinations and found that my daughter could take this drink well. Not only does it look a gorgeous orange, she never complained it has carrots.
For the Dad, to give it a more healthy boost, I added chia seeds. The good thing about chia seeds is it won’t affect the taste of the juice drastically unlike if you mix those beta glucen powder into a drink which changes the texture into wallpaper paste. And besides, if people can tolerate those pearls in those fancy milk tea drinks, chia seeds is nothing. I would like to post more juice recipes in the future so be sure to look out for them.
Orange Booster Juice (Orange, Pineapple and Carrot)
Have a boost of Vit C and straight the source.
- 5 oranges
- 2 large carrots
- 1 pineapple
- Chia seeds (optional)
- Prep the fruits. Wash them and peel the oranges and carrots.
- Skin the pineapple and cut it off the core.
- Pass everything through the fruit juicer.
- Give it a mix. Adjust the sweetness to your liking. I left it as it is.
- To add chia seeds, add 1/2 teaspoon amount dry chia seeds to bottom of glass. Add some juice, let the chia seeds rehydrate.
- Top off with the rest of the juice and stir.
Enjoy!
