Easy and comforting dessert on-the-go, is always the Cherry Cobbler, made with fresh sweet cherries.

Cherry cobbler recipe is easy to make when you crave for a warm dessert, as it's very simple with fresh fruit filling and buttery biscuit-like topping.

What type of cherries works best for cobbler? I found the fresh sweet cherries which were perfect for the cherry filling, mostly in the USA you will get Bing, Brooks, Coral or Reinier cherries, which would work well for any kind of cherry filling recipe.

Canned cherries have a lot of juice which will make it difficult for the cobbler to hold well together. So it's better to use fresh cherries.

You can use any sweet cherry variety you find. Even a combination of some sweet and tart cherries work, but then you will have to increase the quantity of sugar.

You will find more information about cherries in this article.

Cherry cobbler can be made from fresh cherries or frozen cherries too.

If you want to make a store fresh cherries, then store the cherries with stem, washed, dry well,  in a Ziploc in the refrigerator.
If you are planning to freeze the cherries then remove the stem, pit them, make them dry and store in a Ziploc in the freezer.

 Ingredients for Fresh Cherry Cobbler:

  • Fresh Pitted Cherries (For the cherry filling):  Use the fresh sweet cherries available near you. Ideally, Bing cherries are the best as they are very sweet but if you can't find them then use any sweet cherry variety you find.
