Croissant muffins are amazing and really easy to make. It is all about shaping light and airy puff pastry into a muffin. What more would you want?
You can serve them for breakfast, lunch, or brunch.
Crunchy Puffy Croissant Muffins
You can make them with homemade puff pastry dough but feel free to use the store-bought crescent dough.
The most important thing is to keep the dough cool before you start with this recipe.
So, keep your pastry dough in the refrigerator and take it out when you are ready to start.
Do not overwork the dough too much and if the dough gets too warm return the muffin pan into the fridge before you put it into the oven.
To make a flaky, crunchy, and puffy croissant muffin the dough needs to be properly chilled.
Cruffin Pan
To make these muffins you need a pan and the best one is a muffin pan. I use croissant dough for big-sized croissants so they will make extra big croissant muffins.
You do not need to butter the muffin pan because the dough has more than enough butter in it.
Cruffin Ingredients
To make these deluxe muffins you only need a small number of ingredients. You can put the following ingredients on your grocery shopping list:
- Crescent dough/croissant dough
- Cinnamon
- Pecan
- Pistachio nuts
- Icing sugar
How To Make Cruffins
To make these croissant muffins start with preheating the oven to 400℉. Take the pecan and pistachio nuts and finely chop them before you set them aside.
Take your puff pastry dough out of the fridge and roll out it. Divide the crescent dough into three squares and take the first square.
Sprinkle cinnamon on the dough. Then take about a tablespoon of pecan and pistachio and sprinkle on top of the cinnamon.
Roll up the square dough and cut the rolled dough lengthways. Then take half of the dough and fold it into the muffin tin.
Repeat this so sprinkle with cinnamon and nuts, roll, cut, and fold for the remaining dough.
Put the muffin tin into the oven and bake for 15 minutes.
Take out of the oven, let slightly cool before you dust the cruffins with icing sugar.
Ready to serve.
How To Store Cruffins
You have a number of options to store your cruffins:
- Room temperature – if you plan on eating the muffins within a day or two you can keep them at room temperature. Just store them in a bread box or a plastic bag
- Refrigerator – you can store these muffins in the fridge for up to a week. Put then in a plastic bag, plastic wrap or aluminum foil
- Freezer – If you plan to keep them longer you can store them in the freezer. Put them in a ziplock bag and freeze. Store for up to 2 months
Reheat Cruffins
If you plan to store your croissant muffins and reheat them later do not dust them with icing sugar.
Preheat your oven to 400℉ and heat for about 5 minutes until they are warm.
You can put frozen croissants in the oven but you have to add time to thaw in the oven.
This depends on your oven so check after 7 minutes to see if the cruffins are warm else add more time.
Cruffin Filling Options
These pastries are made with cinnamon and nuts but there are so many ways to make them taste even better.
You can add:
- Jam
- Caramel
- Hazelnut spread
- Chocolate chips
- Apple pie filling
- Granulated sugar
- Crushed M&M’s
- Cinnamon sugar
- Apricot
- Raisins
- Almonds
- Raspberries
