My wife loves mint or peppermint flavored things. I also know she loves a nice Hot Chocolate on a cold winter night. I forget where I first saw this recipe, but I finally decided to make this Slow Cooker Peppermint White Hot Chocolate for Christmas.

If you are watching your calorie intake or sugars, please do me a favor and look at the nutritional information on the recipe card first. This Hot Chocolate is seriously sinful. I’m really not surprised given the list of ingredients.

This recipe also makes a ton of Hot Chocolate, approximately 12 mugs, which is great if you are hosting a Holiday Party or have a huge family. If not, you may want to cut this recipe in half.

My wife was the first to try this hot chocolate and her first comment was “I can taste the peppermint and the chocolate”.

Funny thing is that she is not a fan of white chocolate but she said it was good in this recipe.

The directions tell you to stir occasionally, which is pretty subjective so in my experience, I would suggest stirring once every 30 minutes over the 3 hour period. Just try to minimize the amount of time you have the lid off the slow cooker.

Try to resist as much as possible the temptation to open the lid while it’s cooking as the slow cooker loses heat. By just opening the lid to stir the contents can make the internal temperature drop by 10°F to 15°F.

The use of candy canes is optional but if you are hosting a party I think it adds a nice little touch. It will also add a little more peppermint taste. Not that this Hot Chocolate needs it but if you love the taste of mint, you won’t mind.

Depending on the type of chocolate you use, you might find a yellow film on top of the hot chocolate while in the slow cooker. This is simply some of the chocolate rising to the top. Simply stir to re-incorporate.

→ If you aren’t drinking all the hot chocolate in one setting and decide to refrigerate the rest, be aware that white chocolate mixture will rise to the top and solidify. Simply pour it through a strainer or colander to remove the hardened bits.
→ Try to resist as much as possible the temptation to open the lid while it’s cooking as the slow cooker loses heat. By just opening the lid to stir the contents can make the internal temperature drop by 10°F to 15°F.

  1. I have never been a fan of white chocolate until I made this cocoa. It was delicious. The peppermint added just enough flavour. It was delicious.
