  • Bread – we are using Navajo bread also known as Indian fry bread
  • Ground beef – use good quality beef
  • Beans – red kidney beans add fiber to this recipe
  • Black olives – chop into small pieces
  • Seasoning – add taco seasoning to this recipe
  • Tomato puree
  • Onion – finely dice
  • Bell pepper – you can use sweet red bell peppers or regular red bell peppers
  • Garlic – mince fresh garlic
  • Green jalapeños – pickled jalapenos diced

Toppings

  • Avocado – puree the avocado or make guacamole
  • Sour cream – to drizzle on top

How To Make Navajo Tacos

  1. Start this recipe by making the Indian fry bread or make them in the afternoon so you have them available when you start dinner. Preheat a large skillet and add the ground beef.
  2. Break down the meat and brown it until all the pink is gone.
  3. Dice the onion, the red peppers, and the green jalapeños. Add all to the skillet. Stir the ingredients through the ground beef. Let it cook for 2-3 minutes, just until they begin to soften.
  4. Add the taco seasoning and stir it through before you add the tomato puree. Then add half a cup of water and stir to dissolve the seasoning.
  5. Finally, add the can of kidney beans. Let the beef mixture simmer for 10 minutes. Take an Indian fry bread and stack it with the beef mixture.
  6. Add toppings like sliced avocado, turn avocado into guacamole, and sour cream. Ready to serve.

Navajo Tacos

Serves: 4 Prep Time: 5 minutes Cooking Time: 15 minutes

Navajo tacos are made with fry bread and the best taco filling. Add your favorite toppings for a new twist on Taco Tuesday.

Ingredients

  • 4 Navajo bread
  • 200 grams ground beef
  • 1 (15 oz.) can dark red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 6 black olives, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons tomato puree
  • ½ yellow onion, diced
  • ½ red pointed pepper
  • 1 clove of garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp green jalapeños minced
  • Toppings:
  • Sour cream
  • Avocado

Instructions

  1. Make the Indian fry bread
