What You Need For This Recipe
To make these easy soft pretzels you need only a handful of ingredients. Have the following ready when you start:
- Flour – for this recipe, we use self-rising flour. You can use store-bought or make self-rising flour yourself
- Yogurt – I use 0% fat Greek yogurt
- Butter – you can use regular butter or plant-based butter
- Baking soda – to help raise the pretzels
- Water
- Salt – pretzel salt or sea salt

How To Make Soft Pretzels
- To make these 2 ingredient dough pretzels you start with the two-ingredient dough. Put the self-rising flour and plain, fat-free Greek yogurt in the bowl or food processor.
- Mix with a wooden spoon to combine or mix at a low speed until combined. Then, knead at medium speed for about 3 minutes. If the dough is too sticky add more flour.
- Put the dough on a floured board and knead the dough a couple of times so you can shape it into a ball. Cut the dough ball into six wedges. Roll each piece of dough into a long rope and form a pretzel shape.
- Put the pretzels on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper. Dissolve baking soda in boiling water. Brush the pretzels with the baking soda mixture.
- Preheat the oven to 425˚F/218℃ and bake the pretzels for 7-10 minutes or until golden brown. Take the pretzels out of the oven, brush them with melted butter, and sprinkle with pretzel salt or sea salt.
- Your pretzels are ready to serve.

Do You Have To Boil Pretzels Before Baking?
It might be common practice to boil pretzels before you bake them to get a brown exterior. These 2 ingredients in dough pretzels do not need to be boiled.
The only thing you need to do is brush them with baking soda water. Dissolve 2 tablespoons of baking soda in 1 cup of water and brush all of the pretzels right before baking and you get the same result.
You can also dip the dough string in the baking soda water but the string can break. So, if you do not want a dough disaster, brush the dough.
How Do You Rehydrate A Pretzel?
To refresh pretzels is really easy. Take a large piece of tin foil and add 1 tablespoon of water. Put your pretzel in the water and wrap it tightly with the foil.
Preheat your oven to 250˚F/125℃ and warm the pretzel for 20 minutes. You will have a soft and rehydrated pretzel again.
How Long Do Soft Pretzels Last?
It depends on how you store your pretzels. If you haven’t eaten all the pretzels, is that even possible, you can store them:
- Room temperature – Let them cool completely and wrap the pretzels in plastic wrap. You can store them for up to 2 days
- Freezer – if you want to store them longer just put them in a plastic ziplock bag and freeze them for up to 1 month

Ingredients
- 1 cup self-rising flour

- ½ tbsp pretzel salt
