Perfect Easy Bacon

May 17, 2016

Hate to cook bacon & cleanup afterwards with all the splattering & so on? Well, I've tried every possible way to cook bacon & this is by far the easiest, takes the shortest time, gets the most consistent results & cleanup is almost non-existent. What more could you ask for?

Ingredients

8 to 12 oz of Applegate Sunday bacon or other brand of bacon uncured, no nitrates, from humanely raised pigs

Directions

1 Preheat oven to 425°.

2 Line a plate with several layers of paper towels & set aside till bacon is cooked.

3 Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with foil & lay out bacon strips side by side.

4 Bake on lower middle oven rack for 10 to 16 minutes or till bacon is cooked to your satisfaction. Be sure to check the bacon after 10 minutes, as time depends on your oven & the thickness of the bacon. No need to turn the bacon over while cooking.

5 Remove from oven & transfer bacon to the paper towel lined plate to drain off fat. Serve or wrap up in the paper towels, place in a zip lock bag & refrigerate till ready to use. How easy was that?!

Tips & Suggestions

1 Reserve bacon fat drippings from baking sheet to use to cook your eggs, if you're preparing breakfast. Or transfer to a small glass bowl, cover & refrigerate till ready to use in a recipe.

I've seen & tried every way to cook bacon & by far this is the best technique! After trying someone else's recipe, where they put the bacon on a rack & then baked it... what a pain to clean the rack afterwards! So I devised this easy method - it takes less time, gets the most consistent results & cleanup is almost non-existent. 1. Huh, I’ve been pan-frying bacon, then finishing it in the oven for the ultimate crisp. I may have to re-think the two-step process (but sometimes I save bacon fat for some Depression-era recipes I have).

    1. Hi Beth, yeah I think we all used to cook bacon the way you described… or some form of that. Trust me, this will change your outlook on cooking bacon & cleanup is almost non-existent. I also save my bacon grease & you can still do that with this method!

  2. This is such a wonderful idea. We love bacon but it’s such a mess to prepare in a frying pan. This is easy peasy and no mess. Now if you can just find a way to not have the whole house smell like bacon all day!

  3. I really need to start baking bacon! Yours looks perfect and the right amount of crispy!

    1. For sure Jacqui… trust me, once you cook bacon this way you’ll never go back to the old way. You can adjust the baking times to any “doneness” you like… meaning from slightly undercooked to crispy 🙂

  4. I love cooking my bacon in the oven. makes for the most perfect bacon each time and less clean up. Love this post.

  5. What a great idea! I love bacon, but I’m usually too lazy to bake some; I know that I have a lot to clean up after. But your way is amazing! I can’t wait to try it out!
