If you make the salad and want to try another vinaigrette this is the one. It is soft and creamy with a hint of sweet and sour. Drizzle it on your lettuce or veggie salad. Believe me, you will love it. So, are you ready to learn how to make French salad dressing? Join me in the kitchen!
Easy French Salad Dressing Recipe
My French aunt Mimi taught me this recipe when I was 12 years old. It is so easy that I still remember how to make it.
Because all good things come in threes and this is a great example. Just take a look at the recipe and you will see what I mean.
This is made with your basic pantry ingredients. It can be stored for a long time but why would you want to save it?
If you need it just make it fresh as it will take you no more than 5 minutes to put together.
I mean you can do this in less if you won’t trust me. Driving to the store to buy some dressing will take longer than putting this together.
To add to the confusion in some cases French salad dressing is not a vinaigrette but a dressing made with ketchup, oil, vinegar, and paprika.
This is not what we are making today.
French Dressing Ingredients
Ok, so you want to see what goes into this French dressing. Take the following ingredients out of your kitchen pantry when you want to make it:
- Dijon mustard
- Olive oil
- Fine granulated sugar
- Vinegar (white wine, apple cider, regular)
- Dried dill
- Black pepper to taste
How To Make French Vinaigrette
To make this French salad dressing start with a big bowl. Measure the oil and add it to the bowl.
Then measure the vinegar. As mentioned above you can use a variety of different vinegar.
I use regular vinaigrette but if you have another type of vinegar, you can use it as well. Oil and vinegar will not mix but no worries.
Add the mustard and then add the sugar and dill. All you need to do now is take a spoon and stir the ingredients to combine.
You will get this beautiful mustard yellow dressing and you are ready to go.
How To Store French Vinaigrette
As mentioned, this French vinaigrette is best when made fresh but if you have leftovers, you can store them.
- Room temperature – only keep it at room temperature if you are using the dressing within a day
- Fridge – if you want to keep it longer put the dressing in a glass jar that you can close or in an airtight container and put it in the fridge. Can use it for up to 1 week
When you want to use it again stir through and serve.
