How To Make Naan With Garlic

  1. To make this easy homemade naan start and sift the flour in a big bowl. Take out 4 tablespoons of flour and put these in a small bowl to use later.
  2. Then take another small bowl, add the yeast, and add 1-2 tablespoons warm water set aside for 5 minutes.
  3. The yeast is active when you see it bubbles and foam on the yeast. Finely chop the garlic.
  4. Add the salt and sugar to the flour and stir to combine with a wooden spoon. Then add the water, and half of the minced garlic, yogurt, and yeast mixture to the flour.
  5. Stir to combine so you will get a batter-like mixture. Now add the first tablespoon of flour to the dough and stir to combine until fully absorbed.
  6. Then add 2 tablespoons of flour to the bowl and keep on combining and kneading until all the flour is absorbed.
  7. Finally, add the last tablespoon of flour and combine and knead until you get an elastic dough for 5 minutes.
  8. Shape the dough into a ball. Put the ball in an oil-covered bowl and pour 1 tablespoon of oil on the dough. Cover the dough, set it in a draft-free spot, and let it rise for 1 hour.

Make Naan Bread

  1. Sprinkle flour on a cutting board and roll the dough into the shape of a log. Cut the log into 8 equal pieces. Let the pieces rest for 10 minutes covered by a tea towel.
  2. Take a piece of dough and fold it again and again so you get a smaller ball. Repeat for the remaining 7 pieces and cover with the tea towel.
  3. Let the dough rest for 5 minutes.
  4. Take a rolling pin and roll one of the balls into the shape of the naan bread circle. Repeat for the remaining balls and cover these with a tea towel.
  5. If you do not have the space to put the naan do 2 or 3 at a time. Let them rest while you heat a skillet or griddle for 5 minutes until really hot.
  6. Meanwhile, soften the butter and combine it with the minced garlic and parsley. Set aside. When the skillet is hot put one naan bread in the skillet and turn it after 30 seconds using a kitchen tong.
  7. Heat for another 30 seconds and turn. Now you will see the naan dough rise and the top of the naan will separate from the bottom.
  8. Turn again. You will see dark spots on the naan take it out of the pan and brush it with garlic butter on both sides.

Garlic Naan Recipe

You can make fast naan without yeast but today we are making garlic naan. The texture and taste of this naan bread is very different.

It is super soft and infused with garlic. In India, naan is cooked with a Tawa but if you do not own one you can easily bake these in a cast-iron skillet.

The result is just as amazing and garlic naan made from scratch is easy. This naan bread recipe results in soft and fluffy bread with big pockets. All you need to scoop up that tasty curry or dip.

Naan bread is one of my favorite (flat)breads. There are things you can buy in the supermarket that are great but it is safe to say that no store-bought bread can compete with homemade naan.

I dare to say that this bread can easily compete with restaurant-style naan. Brush on loads of garlic butter and you have the best bread ever.

It remains something like a miracle to see the naan balloon like a ball when you put it on a hot griddle. This Uno Casa cast-iron griddle is great to use for naan baking.

A true test to see if you made the perfect naan dough.

How Long Does Homemade Naan Last?

Homemade naan lasts for 2 to 3 days outside of the fridge. You can store naan bread in several ways.

  • Room temperature – if you leave it outside of the fridge store it in a ziplock bag
  • Fridge – you can also put it in a ziplock bag and keep it in the fridge for up to 5 days
  • Freezer – naan can be frozen put in a freezer-friendly container or bag and stored for up to 3 months. You can make the dough roll into a naan, stack it with parchment paper, and store it in the freezer in a ziplock bag. Bake as mentioned in the recipe. You do not need to thaw the dough just bake it in a skillet

How Do You Revive Naan?

If you want to have your naan taste as good when freshly baked preheat the oven to 400℉/200℃. Sprinkle the naan with water.

Put in the oven for 3 minutes to heat, turn halfway through the reheating, and check if the bread is still soft. You can also wrap the bread in foil and let it warm for 5-7 minutes.

It will take longer but the bread will not go hard. Do not reheat naan in the microwave because the naan bread will get hard very fast.

Can You Reheat Naan In A Toaster?

Yes, naan bread can be reheated in a toaster but you have to be extra careful not to turn it into toast.

What Is The Use of Sprinkling Water On Naan Bread?

The water helps freshen up the naan. The water can expand and evaporate in the oven. It is the same process as when you want to revive stale bread in the oven.

The water helps the bread to stay soft and flexible.
