We both fell in love with dulce de leche. Our bonds with it are definitely unbreakable 🙂


It’s completely new delicacy to us discovered few years ago and I make it from scratch whenever possible. Pecan Dulce de Leche Brownies are one of so many ways we use this precious milk jam.

We combine it with all the food that would include Nutella. Dulce de leche is an excellent substitute.
I made Dulce de Leche Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars with vanila flavoured dulce de leche but for these brownies I made dulce with five cinnamon sticks instead vanilla added to condensed milk at the begining of the process and it gives quite different amazing comforting flavour.

It enriches cookies, waffels, biscuits,pancakes, slice of bread and so much more so nicely and it is really very hard to resist its’ the flavours.
After combining it with waffles, pancakes, muffins, ice creams, cookies and hot chocolate I made these Pecan Dulce de Leche Brownies.
Although cut when completely cold, both my son and I prefer to have the slices warmed up in the microwave. If you do that be aware of hot dulce; maybe you could cool it with some ice cream aside 🙂

Ingredients

  • 9 Tbsp unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 3 Tbsp bitter cocoa powder
  • ¾ cup Muscovado sugar, firmly packed
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup + 3 Tbsp flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup Dulce de Leche, room temperature
  • 2 Tbsp heavy cream
  • ¾ cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Cover 7 x 7 inches baking dish with baking paper and butter the paper well. Leave aside.

  2. Preheat the oven to 180 C / 356 F.

  3. In heavy bottom pot, medium sized, combine butter and cocoa powder on low heat, until butter is melted.

  4. Remove from heat and add sugar, vanilla extract, salt, flour and eggs and mix using spatula.

  5. Pour half of the batter into the baking dish and bake for 15 minutes.

  6. Meanwhile, on low heat, in small pot, combine Dulche de Leche, heavy cream and pecans.

  7. Take the batter from the oven. Keep oven at 180 C / 356 F.

  8. Pour Dulce de Leche mixture over the baked batter.

  9. Carefully cover with the remaining brownie batter and bake for another 30 minutes.

  10. Let it cool completely before cutting into bars with sharp knife. Wipe the blade with hot water for cleaner slices.
