I was given a pack of these crisp Vol au vents by Jalaram foods and was wondering what filling I could use to complete the look of these beauties

This time, it had to be something easy to make, vegetarian and creamy to compliment the crisp vol au vents. I love how cheesy and delicious they turned out. I’m sure you’ll love it too

Vol-au-vent (Pastry Puffs)

A vol-au-vent is a puff pastry that has a small hollow case in it. This hollow case is where you could stuff your fillings in. Vol-au-vent is pronounced as Vo-lo-va and is a French word which means windblown, this is to describe how light and airy these pastry puffs are

They are typically stuffed with fish or meat fillings, but we’re keeping it vegetarian for now

Ingredients for the Vol au vent filling recipe

Boiled Potatoes & Corn

Firstly, boiled potatoes are the most essential ingredient in this filling recipe. Boil the potatoes, remove the skin and grate it. Combine it with the other ingredients and you’re done. It’s that easy

You need to boil the corn as well in a similar manner. Just make sure you do not over boil the corn, we do not want to lose that bright yellow color or make the corn mushy

Basic seasoning

Salt, pepper, chili flakes, and oregano. That’s all we need when it comes to seasoning. As I said, we keep this recipe simple thus no much spices required. However, feel free to add some more variations in dried herbs if you’d like it.

Cheese

Cheese is another essential ingredient in here, that’s the reason we call it Cheesy Vol-au-vents. You can use grated cheese in this recipe however its best to use cheese spread of any brand. Moreover, you can even use flavored cheese spreads that are available in the market. The cheese spread adds a creamy texture and also acts as a binding agent. Thus, the cheesier, the better
