Perfectly Grilled Turkey Burgers Recipe
These burgers are definitely a favorite and even though turkey burgers can go dry quickly these are still moist.
The most important reason why these burgers are so moist is that they are grilled in a closed barbecue.
That way the warm air is circulated inside the BBQ and the burgers can’t dry out. Further do not grill the burger on high heat.
If you grill on a medium heat grill the moist will stay inside the burger longer and the meat doesn’t dry out.
You can best regulate the temperature of your barbecue with an electric grill but you get the best flavor when you use a charcoal grill.
When grilling on charcoal make certain the coals are white. Keep one side of the barbecue empty so you can grill the meat indirectly.
Today we are grilling these burgers but you can of course also bake these burgers in a grill pan or a cast-iron skillet.
Turkey Burger Ingredients
To make these burgers you need a number of ingredients. Put the following ingredients on your grocery shopping list:
- White milk buns
- Ground turkey
- Roma lettuce
- Small white onion
- Small red onion
- Mayonnaise
- Tomato
- Avocado
- Salt and pepper to taste or burger seasoning
How To Make Turkey Burgers
To make these burgers start by seasoning ground turkey with salt and pepper and shaping it into two turkey burgers.
If the ground turkey is really loose, add a couple of tablespoons of breadcrumbs and knead it through the meat before shaping it into a burger.
Heat up your grill. If you have nonstick grill grated you are fine else brush a bit of oil on the grill grates. Put the turkey burgers on the grill grate.
Let them grill for 5 minutes. Turn the turkey burgers and let them grill for another 5 minutes. Do not move the burgers too much they will release by themselves.
Take some foil and sprinkle with oil. Put sliced onion on the foil so it can go soft.
Cut the burger buns in half and put them on the grill cut side down to toast the buns for 2 minutes.
Take the buns from the grill. Spread some mayonnaise on the buns. Slice the tomato into thin slices and add to the bun. Then add 2 lettuce leaves.
Cut the avocado in half and slice it into wedges. Put avocado wedges on the lettuce before you put the turkey burger on the bun.
Put sliced onion on the burger and put the bun on top. Ready to serve.
At What Temperature Do You Grill Turkey Burgers?
To heat your burgers on the grill you need to heat your grill or barbecue to medium-high 400-450℉/200℃-225℃.
Then cook the burgers on the grill until they reach an internal temperature of 160℉/71℃. Flip the burgers after about 5 minutes.
How Do You Keep Turkey Burgers From Falling Apart?
When preparing your turkey burgers from scratch you need something to hold the turkey patties together.
Just like when preparing meatballs, you can do that by adding:
- breadcrumbs
- white bread and milk
- breadcrumbs and egg
Combine either of these additives with the turkey meat. Let it sit for a couple of minutes before you shape the turkey into patties and put them on the grill.
Is A Turkey Burger Healthier Than Hamburgers?
A turkey burger is made with leaner meat that contains less fat and more protein than a hamburger. As a result, you get a healthier burger.
However, if you still add a lot of extra sauces or bacon to your turkey burger it is as unhealthy as a regular burger.
