What ingredients are in a peanut butter and jelly smoothie bowl?

A classic PB&J sandwich contains three key ingredients: bread, jelly, and peanut butter.

  • Oats. Instead of bread, we’ll use either rolled oats or quick oats. They are rich in fiber as well as several vitamins and minerals.
  • Berries. In place of jelly, we’ll add a blend of blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries to this smoothie. Berries are loaded with antioxidants.
  • Peanut butter. Lastly, peanut butter will certainly be included. You can’t have a PB&J without the PB, right?
  • Oat milk. I love using oat milk as the liquid for this recipe. It’s sweet, creamy, and brings an additional “bread” flavor.

Kaylie’s Tips:

  • This peanut butter and jelly smoothie bowl recipe calls for 2.5 cups frozen berries. Feel free to use any combination or ratio of mixed frozen berries. For example:
    • 1 cup blueberries + 1 cup raspberries + 1/2 cup strawberries
    • 1/2 cup blueberries + 1 cup rasperries + 1 cup strawberries
    • 1 cup blueberries + 1/2 cup raspberries + 1 cup strawberries
  • Why frozen berries? I prefer to use frozen berries over fresh berries whenever creating a smoothie. This is because frozen fruit helps create a thicker, creamier consistency. Plus, when you use frozen fruit, no ice is needed!
  • Use minimal liquid. For a thick smoothie bowl, use the smallest amount of oat milk possible. Begin with 3/4 cup, then add additional milk as needed. Your blender may require more or less oat milk. Remember, more liquid creates a thinner consistency while less liquid creates a thicker consistency.
  • Add toppings. Top these peanut butter and jelly smoothie bowls with fresh berries, creamy peanut butter, and anything else you desire! These bowls would also be great with dried blueberries on top.
