INSTANT POT CHICKEN BREAST
This is the perfect instant pot chicken breast recipe. It's deliciously seasoned, easy to make, versatile and cook in less than 20 minutes. You can use fresh or frozen chicken! I have included step by step directions for how to go about cooking frozen chicken in the instant pot and also how to cook fresh chicken breast in instant pot pressure cooker. This recipe is also low carb and suitable for keto diet.
This recipe is for boneless, skinless chicken breasts but you can also use chicken breasts wth skin on. Let me show you how i make chicken breasts in the instant pot pressure cooker.

INGREDIENTS FOR INSTANT POT CHICKEN BREAST

The ingredients for this well seasoned easy instant pot chicken breast or pressure cooker chicken breast are simple. The ingredients you will need are:
Chicken Breast - Fresh or frozen
Smoked Paprika
Onion powder
Coriander
Parsley
Tarragon
Stock cube
Cayenne or Black pepper
HOW TO COOK CHICKEN BREAST IN INSTANT POT
1) Make the dry spice rub by mixing paprika, onion powder, parsley, tarragon, coriander, garlic powder, stock cube, black pepper and salt together.
2) Prep, clean and pat chicken dry with kitchen towel. Add spice rub to the chicken making sure all parts are covered.
If you have the time, leeave chicken to marinate for 30 minutes or more.
3) Set instant pot to saute function then add oil. When oil is heated, add in chicken breasts and brown the sides then turn and brown the other side.
4) When the sides are browned, take the breasts out of the Instant pot and put them in a plate. Switch off Instant pot saute mode.
5) Add water or chicken broth to the instant pot, deglaze and place trivet in the pot. Arrange browned chicken breasts on trivet then close the Instant pot with it’s lid.
6) Set to manual pressure cook and afterwards do natural pressure release.
7) Once the instant pot is depressurised, open the lid and take out chicken breasts.
8) Leave to rest for 5 minutes then serve and enjoy.
INSTANT POT CHICKEN BREAST FROM FROZEN
1) Seperate the chicken and season with dry spice rub.
2) Add water or chicken broth to the instant pot and place trivet in the pot. Arrange chicken breasts on trivet then close the Instant pot with it’s lid.
3) Set to manual pressure cook and after pressure cooking do natural pressure release.
4) Once the instant pot is depressurised, open the lid and take out chicken breasts.
Leave to rest for 5 minutes before serving or move to step 5 if you like to brown the sides.
5) To brown, set instant pot to saute function then add oil. When oil is heated, add in chicken breasts and brown the side for 2 minutes without moving it then turn and brown the other side for another 2 minutes.
Take out and serve.
Note: Instant pot takes longer to come to pressure when cooking from frozen
HOW LONG TO COOK CHICKEN BREAST IN INSTANT POT
How long to cook frozen chicken breast in instant pot: For this recipe, with the recommended settings, it takes 20 minutes. 12 minutes of pressure cooking and 8 minutes natural pressure release.
How long to cook fresh chicken breast in instant pot: For this recipe, with the recommended settings, it takes 15 minutes. 7 minutes of pressure cooking and 8 minutes natural pressure release.
If you're not sure chicken is cooked and for food safety compliance, check that the internal temperature of the chicken is atleast 165F (75C). To ensure this, check by using meat thermomether.
TIPS
- You can season chicken breasts to your liking. Explore with combination of spices.
- Skip the browning step if you prefer not to have browned outer skin.
- Remember to deglaze the instant pot after browning so as to avoid burn error when pressure cooking.
- Make delicious gravy from the liquid from the chicken.
HOW TO MAKE GRAVY FROM CHICKEN BREAST DRIPPINGS
Don’t let the drippings from the chicken breast go to waste, make some gravy! Here’s how:
1) After removing chicken breasts from the instant pot, set instant pot to saute mode.
2) Pour cornflour slurry in content of the pot. Stir till gravy thickens then take off heat.
3) Pour in gravy boat to serve.
What to serve with chicken breast
Some foods to serve chicken breast with include instant pot basmati rice, salads, Instant pot jollof rice, gravy, vegetables, Instant pot roast potatoes.
How to Store Chicken Breast
Leave chicken breast to cool completely, then put in freezer bags or airtight container, label and store in the fridge or freezer.
How long to keep chicken breast in fridge - 3 days
How long to keep Chicken breast in freezer - 6 months.
When needed, thaw in the fridge overnight and re heat.

- 3 Chicken breast

Instructions

- When oil is heated, add in chicken breasts and sear the side for about 2 minutes without moving it then turn and sear the other side for another 2 minutes.
- When the sides are browned, take the breasts out of the Instant pot and put them in a plate. Switch off IP saute mode.
- Add water or chicken broth to the instant pot, deglaze and place trivet in the pot. Arrange chicken breasts on trivet then close the Instant pot with it’s lid.
- Set to manual pressure cook 7 minutes. After the 7 minutes, do 8 minutes natural pressure release.For thin fillet of chicken breast, pressure cook for 5 minutes instead of 7 minutes.
- Once the instant pot is depressurised, open the lid and take out chicken breasts.
- Serve and enjoy.
INSTANT POT CHICKEN BREAST FROM FROZEN
- Seperate the chicken and season with dry spice rub.
- Add water or chicken broth to the instant pot and place trivet in the pot. Arrange chicken breasts on trivet then close the Instant pot with it’s lid.
- Set to manual pressure cook 12 minutes. After the 12 minutes, do 8 minutes natural pressure release.
- Once the instant pot is depressurised, open the lid and take out chicken breasts.
- Set instant pot to saute function then add oil. When oil is heated, add in chicken breasts and brown the side for 2 minutes without moving then turn and brown the other side for another 2 minutes.
- Take out of the instant pot, serve and enjoy.
