Keep warm this holiday with a Mocha Irish Coffee!  This creamy adult coffee is the perfect treat to end to a cold winter night!

Why was Irish coffee invented?

Originally created for cold pilots and passengers staying overnight on an airbase, the classic Irish coffee is made up of whiskey, coffee, and cream.  I’m putting a chocolate twist on this classic today and partnering with Mad March Hare to create this Mocha Irish Coffee!  You’ll love sipping this delicious adult coffee!

What is Mad March Hare?

This Irish Poitín was created underground in 1661.  It was unwelcome by the British, so the Irish secretly distilled it for over 300 years.  Mad March Hare is triple distilled and uses only the best, locally sourced, malted barley.  It is produced in copper pot stills because of copper’s catalytic properties.  Mad March Hare was a perfect match for this Mocha Irish coffee! The smooth taste of this Irish Poitín pairs perfectly with the rich chocolate and strong french press coffee.

How do you make a Mocha Irish Coffee?

  1. Measure and add 5 tablespoons of freshly coarse-ground coffee to a French Press.  Add 2 tablespoons dutch processed cocoa powder
  2. Pour 2 cups of water into a pot on the stove and heat until it’s near-boiling.
  3. Add hot water to french press and stir.
  4. Let the coffee steep in the French Press for 5 minutes.
  5. While the coffee is steeping, warm the milk in the microwave for 45 seconds.  Remove from the microwave and set aside
  6. Press plunger down.
  7. Pour into an Irish coffee mug and combine immediately with warmed milk
  8. Add 1 oz of Mad March Hare and stir to combine
  9. Top with whipped cream and garnish with a chocolate Pirouette
