Garlic Shrimp Pasta Ingredients
To make this fast garlic shrimp scampi pasta you need a handful of ingredients. So put the following ingredients on your grocery shopping list:
- Spaghetti
- Shrimp
- Onion
- Garlic
- Pesto
- Olive oil
How To Make Garlic Shrimp Pasta
The success of this recipe starts with the spaghetti you choose. The thinner the spaghetti the faster this dish will be done.
I selected fast spaghetti that is done al dente in 3 minutes. While you bring a pot with water, olive oil, and salt to the boil, finely chop the onion and slice the garlic.
Then preheat a skillet or wok and pan fry the shrimp until pink in olive oil, this takes about 3 minutes. Take the scampi out of the pan and set it aside.
Now add more olive oil to the pan and add the chopped onion. Stir continuously and after a minute add the garlic. Keep on stirring until soft and translucent this takes also about minutes.
Reduce the heat and return the shrimp to the pan with the onion mixture. Add pesto to the shrimp and stir.
Drain the spaghetti and add to the pan. Stir the pasta through the shrimp mixture. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Your spaghetti with shrimp is ready to serve.
Shrimp Pasta Recipe Easy Ingredients Options
This is the easiest version of this recipe but you can easily add several great ingredient options like:
- Sun-dried tomatoes – to give your recipe some color because the better a dish looks the better it tastes
- Chili flakes – spice it up a bit and sprinkle some chili flakes on your pasta
- Cream – if you like creamy pasta just add some cream to the onion mixture before you add the spaghetti to the pan
- Scallions – to add flavor and color to your scampi pasta add sliced scallions
- Herbs – finish your pasta dish and sprinkle some finely chopped parsley or basil on top
- Cheese – top with some grated cheese like parmesan or mozzarella
How To Store Spaghetti
This recipe tastes the best if made and eaten straight away. Especially because it takes so little time there is hardly any advantage to make ahead.
If you want to you can fully prepare this recipe and store the cooked pasta without the shrimps in the fridge for 3 to 4 days.
Warm it by putting it in a skillet and heating it on the stovetop.
You can store the prepared meal in an airtight container and once it has cooled completely store it in the freezer for 2 months.
Before reheating the pasta first, thaw completely in de fridge and warm through in a pan or skillet.
Should I Rinse Pasta After Cooking?
You may think you need to stop the cooking process and therefore have to rinse the spaghetti. This is not necessary.
It will remove the starch which is what helps to let the sauce stick to the pasta. So, you can just drain the pasta and put it in with the sauce.
Reasons why you should rinse your pasta:
- Salad – if you want to make a pasta salad then you can rinse the pasta
- Make-ahead – if you are not going to use the pasta straight away, it is a good idea to rinse the pasta. Else it can stick together like a ball
How Do You Make Spaghetti Noodles Not Stick?
If you do not want to eat your pasta with a sauce you can add olive oil to the cooking water. The olive oil will coat the pasta and keep it from sticking like a ball of pasta.
In this garlic shrimp pasta recipe, we do not have a sauce, so we added olive oil to the boiling water.
How To Tell If Cooked Pasta Has Gone Bad?
You can tell if cooked pasta has gone bad if:
- Odor – if the pasta has developed an off odor
- Appearance – if the appearance is off like a strange color
- Flavor – if the flavor is significantly different
- Mold – if there is mold on the pasta discard it immediately
The best rule of thumb is if you do not trust the food always discard it.
