Let me warn you, this is about to be your favourite chicken wings recipe! I love chicken wings. I know I've said it before in my easy baked chicken legs recipe but I'm saying it again..I love chicken wings! It’s one of my favourite parts of the chicken and I believe it’s the best tasting part. The drummetes aka mini drumsticks make good bite-size finger food, I like the meat of wings, and my family loves it. There are many different ways I make chicken wings and this recipe is one of our favourites and hopefully will be yours soon. It's easy, it's homemade and the instant pot makes it quick.
Do you know chicken wings are white meat and not dark meat? Yes, it is but unlike its counterpart chicken breasts it's super delicious and juicy.
Instant Pot Chicken Wings Recipe
This instant pot chicken wings recipe is simple but delicious. The wings are tender on the inside, with crispy skin, flavorful and delicious.
For chicken wings sauce you can use your favourite sauce, barbeque sauce, Peri Peri sauce or buffalo sauce for this recipe. If you choose to use buffalo sauce like I did in this recipe, I included how to make it in this post.

Here are what you will need:
Chicken Wings
Garlic powder
Onion powder
Paprika
Oregano
Black pepper
Salt
For Buffalo sauce
Butter
Cayenne pepper (Optional)
Honey
Hot sauce
How To Cook Chicken Wings In Instant Pot
Cut chicken wings -To cut the chicken wings, find the joints and use kitchen scissors to cut through the center of each joint, you then have three parts: the Drumette, the flat and the tip. Use the Drumettes and flat in this recipe and discard the tip. The tips are edible and you can leave it on if you prefer.
Make Buffalo sauce- Melt butter then add in the hot sauce, cayenne pepper and honey. Mix well and set aside.
Make the dry rub- Mix paprika, onion granules, garlic granules, oregano, black pepper, and salt and you have your chicken wings dry rub. You can add your favourite spices to the mix.
Add dry rub to chicken and mix well.
Place the trivet in the instant inner pot and arrange the chicken wings on top. Add ¾ cup water in the instant pot, close, and fasten the instant pot lid.
The wings should not be in the water directly. Ensure they are placed on the trivet and above water.
Set to manual and pressure cook for 8 minutes. It takes about 10 minutes for the instant pot to reach pressure. After the 8 minutes of pressure cooking, do 6 minutes natural pressure release
Natural pressure release: You let the instant pot go into keep warm mode and when it reaches 5 minutes, put the into vent position, once the button moves down, you can then open the instant pot.

Put the cooked chicken wings in a bowl, add half of the sauce and mix. Arrange chicken wings on baking paper covered oven tray then broil for 6 minutes. Turn the side and broil for another 6 minutes. This ensures both sides are crisp. In total 12 minutes in the oven.
Put the broiled crispy chicken back in the bowl and add the remaining buffalo sauce. Mix and serve.
There you have moist, juicy inside and crisp chicken wings. One of the best instant pot chicken wings recipe ever.
When cooking frozen chicken wings
If cooking chicken wings from frozen for this recipe, pressure cook for 12 minutes instead of 8 minutes.
Tips
- Pat the wings dry with kitchen towels before seasoning.
- For easy clean up, line the tray with baking sheet.
- Use any of your favourite spice mix for the dry rub.
- Broiling the chicken is not a must. If you’d rather not have crispy wings then omit the broiling process.
- If you like your wings dripping in sauce, double the buffalo sauce recipe.
What To Serve With Chicken Wings
Serve chicken wings with blue cheese, mayonnaise or ranch sauce accompanied with celery stick or and carrot sticks on the side, coleslaw, fries, salad or any sides of choice. This can be eaten as appetisers. Perfect for game nights. If to be eaten as main you can add sides such as

How To Store
Now, I don't think many people will be needing this information because some of us are not that disciplined to have chicken wings leftover. Not me anyway. It's always never enough. If you are fortunate to have leftovers you want to store you can keep it in the fridge for up to 3 - 4 days. It can also be frozen for up to 3 months. To freeze, put in a Ziploc or freezer bag and seal then put in the freezer.

Instant Pot Chicken Wings
Equipment
- Instant pot pressure cooker
Ingredients
- 1kg Chicken wings
- Salt
For chicken wings dry rub
- 1 tbsp Paprika
- 1 teaspoon Onion powder
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- ½ teaspoon Black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon Oregano
For buffalo sauce
- 3 tbsp Butter
- ½ Cup Hot sauce
- 1 tbsp Honey
- 1 teaspoon Cayenne pepper Optional
Instructions
- Cut the wings into drummettes, flat and tips. Discard the tips
- Make the buffalo sauce- Melt butter then add in the hot sauce, cayenne pepper and honey. Mix well and set aside.
- Pat chicken wings dry with kitchen towel and season with salt then add the dry rub ingredients. Mix well with chicken.
- Place trivet inside the inner pot of the instant pot and add ¾ cup water. Arrange seasoned chicken wings on trivet. Close and fasten instant pot lid and set to manual pressure cook 8 minutes. After 8 minutes pressure cook, do 6 minutes natural pressure release.
- Put the cooked chicken wings in a bowl, add half of the buffalo sauce and mix. Arrange chicken wings on baking paper covered oven tray then broil for 6 minutes. Turn the sides and broil for another 6 minutes.
- Put the broiled crispy chicken back in the bowl and add the remaining buffalo sauce.
- Mix and serve.
