Creamy Mushroom Sauce Recipe

Mushrooms are one of my favorite ingredients just like onion and garlic. You can add mushrooms to just about any recipe.

It is filling and hearty. All you need to do is use mushrooms that are as fresh as possible. Choose those big white mushrooms and slice them finely and bake them with butter and olive oil.

This recipe contains white wine. If you do not like white wine you can leave it out of this recipe or use some vegetable or chicken broth instead.

The parmesan cheese will thicken the sauce and add more flavor. Just like the garlic mushrooms, I showed a little while back this is a great version of the perfect mushrooms side dish.

Only rinse the mushrooms if they contain dirt else brush them clean.

How To Store Creamy Mushroom Sauce

If you have leftover sauce or you made a big batch you can store it for later. Let the sauce cool completely before storing:

  • Refrigerator – the best and preferred way to store this sauce is in the fridge. You can store it in an airtight food container for at least 2 days.
  • Freezer – it is possible to store a cream sauce with a heavy cream base in the freezer. However, the sauce is very likely to separate which means you have to fix it by adding oil and cream to let it come together again. If you do not mind this then you can store it in the freezer but it is not recommended.

    Parmesan!

    I *knew* I’d forgotten a key ingredient!

Thank you so much for the reminder. I’d have used paprika or cumin or or cloves or anything else from my store cupboard if I hadn’t found your recipe. I’d never have thought to try the fridge! ?
