Surprising Mexican Pinwheel Recipe
Want a great snack to serve at your next party? Try this recipe. You will be surprised to see how much your guests love it. These pinwheels are vegan but with a great bite.
You can create your favorite pinwheel by selecting some of your favorite ingredients. Because you want to roll up the pinwheels tightly it is recommended to select ingredients you can easily spread out and roll up.
Pinwheels can be either sweet or savory. These Mexican pinwheels are savory roll-ups that you can serve as a party snack but you can also serve them as appetizer roll-ups.
What Is A Pinwheel?
But first of all, what are pinwheels or roll-ups? Pinwheels are simple children’s toys made with paper or plastic. The paper curls are attached to a stick by a pin hence the pinwheel.
Put the pin in the wind and it will turn endlessly. But in essence, a pinwheel or roll-up is a tortilla with a filling rolled up tightly and refrigerated. Then cut into bite-size rolls.
How To Store Mexican Pinwheels
When you make a big batch of pinwheels or have leftovers you have several ways to store Mexican pinwheels:
- Refrigerator – you can store these in the fridge for 1 to 2 days. As avocados discolor easily, they can turn brown. Preferably you store it when it is not cut into pinwheels. That way the majority of the guacamole remains green. When wrapped store it in an airtight food container
- Freezer – guacamole, and avocados freeze very well so you can store these pinwheels in the freezer. Store them in a freezer-friendly food container for up to a month. Let them thaw in the fridge overnight before storing. Again, the guacamole can discolor
