How To Make
Matcha Balls
Remove the pit from the dates then steep them in warm water for about 10 minutes.
Fresh Tip: Steeping the dates helps to bring out their naturally sweet caramel flavor!
Drain the dates then add to a food processor along with the coconut oil, almond flour, coconut flakes, vanilla extract, and matcha powder. Add in half the pistachios and save the rest to use as a topping. Pulse ingredients in food processor until they are well combined and form a ‘doughy’ consistency.
Crush or chop the remaining pistachios. Using a 1 tbsp scoop, form the matcha dough into balls. Roll the balls in the crushed pistachios to coat. You can let the bliss balls harden in the fridge for 15-30 minutes if you prefer a less ‘gooey’ consistency.
Melt coconut oil over low heat in a small saucepan. Stir in the almond milk and agave nectar until combined. Using a whisk, mix in the raw cacao powder until you have a lump-free syrup. Remove pan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
While the syrup is still warm, use a spoon to drizzle over the matcha pistachio bliss balls. Alternatively, dip the balls in the syrup to coat to your liking.
What Makes Matcha Bliss Balls Super?
These bliss balls are full of whole foods and are naturally sweetened, so it’s no wonder they’re healthy compared to most other desserts.
But some of the ingredients pack an extra healthy punch which has given them the title of ‘superfoods’.
Matcha
Matcha is basically a specific variety of extremely high quality green tea. That means it has all the same health benefits you’d expect from a glass of green tea – only ten fold.
That’s right, 1 serving of matcha packs the nutritional punch of 10 servings of green tea!
Matcha is particularly high in antioxidants and has 137x more fat-burning ECGCs than regular green tea. Oh, and it also goes great in green smoothie bowls.
Here’s a full breakdown on how matcha differs from green tea.
Raw Cacao
The raw cacao in the “chocolate” syrup is another antioxidant rich superfood. Cacao is what gives dark chocolate its health benefits.
But dark chocolate only contains about 60% cacao, and it is then processed with fattening cream and sugar which degrades many of the nutrients and antioxidants.
Raw cacao powder is 100% unprocessed cacao with no added fat or sugar which means you can get the full potential out of this wonderful plant.
Cacao is considered nature’s antidepressant and can also aid in weight loss!
