- Vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
You can find all the ingredient amounts and instructions in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
How To Make Date Caramel
- There are a lot of different types of dates. There are at least 10 types of dates, from red to black and from semi-sweet to real sweet.
- I never knew until I first ate Medjool which tasted so different than the dates I tasted before. This was like a treat a piece of candy.
- The Delget Noor is another type of date that is soft, sticky, and sweet.
- This date caramel is made with Delget Noor dates. So, to turn it into caramel put all the ingredients in the blender.
- First pulse the blender to combine all the ingredients. When it has turned into small bits you can turn your blender to a higher speed.
- If the sauce is too thick you can add more coconut milk. If it is not sweet enough add one or two teaspoons of palm syrup to make the sauce sweeter.
- Put the caramel sauce in a glass jar and store it in the fridge. You can keep it in the fridge for at least two weeks and sometimes even longer.
- When you store it in the fridge it will get firmer.
Serve Caramel With
This caramel is sweet and soft. You can eat it with:
- Nice cream – use this caramel as a topping on this banana ice cream. You can also add it while making the nice cream in your kitchen machine
- Vegan coffee macchiato – Put a tablespoon of caramel in a glass before you add the milk and coffee
- Breakfast bowl – sweeten your yogurt with caramel
- Sweet taquitos – drizzle this sauce on top of the sweet taquitos
- Apple tortilla bites – either drizzle the sauce on top or stir it through the apple bits
- Popcorn caramel coffee – a tasty coffee recipe with a twist. If you like milk, caramel, and popcorn this recipe is for you
Dairy-Free Caramel Recipe
This may be the easiest caramel sauce you ever made. Especially if you want to store and use the caramel for a longer time.
Date caramel without water stores well and can be used for up to a couple of weeks. You need a high-speed blender because, without it, the caramel will stay a little chunky instead of creamy.
Best of all this caramel can be eaten by anyone if you are dairy intolerant, you can finally eat caramel sauce.
Last year I showed you how you can make caramel dulce de leche from condensed milk. The downside of this caramel is that it is not vegan.
So, if you do not want to or can take dairy this caramel is not for you.
The second downside of dulce de leche is that it takes quite a long to make. A couple of hours compared to a couple of minutes in a high-speed blender.
Have fun making this sweet date caramel!
