How To Make Crockpot Barbecue Ribs

  1. The preparation of this recipe is ultra-short. If you make homemade barbecue sauce it will take a little longer.
  2. Start by finely chopping the garlic.
  3. Remove the membrane from the ribs and rub the brown sugar, a touch of Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper, and salt on the ribs before you put them in the Crockpot.
  4. Then pour the barbecue sauce on top of the ribs. Now close the Crockpot and it on. You have two options when you slow cook, you can put it on high or on low:
    • If you also love your ribs fall off the bone set your slow cooker to:
      • LOW: set the clock to 9 HOURS
      • HIGH: set the clock at 4½ HOURS
    • If you want soft ribs but like the meat to stay on the bone set your slow cooker to:
      • LOW: set the clock to 7 HOURS
      • HIGH: set the clock at 3½ HOURS
  5. In this recipe, I put it on High for 4½ hours. Now preheat your oven and set it to broil. Put parchment paper on a baking tray.
  6. Take the barbecue ribs and put them on the baking tray.
  7. Make sure the barbecue sauce is evenly distributed on the ribs and brush the sauce on the ribs.
  8. Broil the barbecue ribs for about 5 to 10 minutes until the sauce is bubbling and the edges are a little charred.
  9. Your barbecue ribs are ready to serve.

Barbecue Ribs In Crockpot Recipe

Finally, I have a Crockpot not just any Crockpot but a Crockpot express. It lets you slow cook and cook under high pressure. This is ideal because depending on the amount of time you have you can either slow or fast cook.

These barbecue ribs are slow-cooked first and caramelized under the grill second. With this tried and tested barbecue sauce it is even easier to get the best crockpot barbecue ribs with homemade barbecue sauce.

The Crockpot Express is a 7-in-1 multi-cooking tool. When slow-cooked in the Crockpot you get to fall off the bone tender barbecue ribs. This is how it should be with ribs:

  • The meat should always be off the bone
  • It should be tender and soft
  • A little caramelized
  • Sweet and spicy

If you want to cook ribs buy good quality ribs from your butcher. What is also very important is to remove the membrane. You can do that easily yourself.

The membrane is at the back of the ribs. Take the membrane between the thumb and forefinger and pull it loose. Ribs without a membrane absorb the sauce better.

Instead of a CrockPot you can also use an Instant Pot for this recipe.
