TIPS

So, this recipe is really easy. Therefore, we’d not get into talking about ingredients in detail (like I normally do)

Here are a few tips which would help you through the making of this Chocolate Malai Peda …

Firstly, stir the mixture continuously while on the gas

The mixture should come together at the end just like a dough. You should be able to form a smooth ball while rolling it onto your palms, that’s when you know its time to switch off the gas

Roll the mixture into small balls or any shape of your choice when the mixture is still warm. This makes it easier to roll and also yields smooth shapes with no cracks. Also, you can add some clarified butter onto your palms while rolling it

However, if you feel the mixture is cracking while forming shapes. Reheat it with a tablespoon of clarified butter and mix it well. As a result, the mixture will come together like a smooth dough

Chocolate Milk Peda Recipe

Ingredients

For the cottage cheese mixture:
  • 2 liter, full-fat milk
  • 2-3 tablespoon white vinegar or fresh lemon juice
For the main mixture :
  • 2 tablespoons (30 grams) ghee/ clarified butter
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) full-fat milk
  • 1/4 (60 ml) full-fat cream
  • 3/4 cup (95 grams) milk powder
  • 1 cup (300 grams) condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons (12 grams) unsweetened cocoa powder
For Garnishing:
  • Few nuts of your choice (I used almonds & cashews)

Method (Chocolate Malai Peda)

  • In a pan, boil 2 liters of milk on medium heat. Once the milk comes to a boil, switch off the gas and add vinegar or lime juice. Mix well and let sit aside until the mixture curdles. Throw out the water from this mixture and wash the curdled mixture with more water to remove the flavor of the lemon juice or vinegar from it. Tie the mixture in a muslin cloth for 30 mins to remove all the excess liquid from it
  • Once done, crumble this mixture and there you have your crumbled cottage cheese/ paneer. Set aside
  • In another pan on medium heat, add the clarified butter/ghee. Let it melt. To this add milk, cream and bring to a slight boil. Now add the milk powder and mix well. Add the crumbled cottage cheese/paneer to this mixture. Mix well on medium heat until it all comes together.
  • To this, add the condensed milk and cocoa powder. Continue cooking the mixture on medium heat until the mixture forms a smooth dough
  • Switch off the gas, let cool for 5 mins. When the mixture is still warm, add some clarified butter onto your palms and roll smooth balls of the mixture. Garnish with nuts and serve
