This post was originally published on October 6, 2018 and has been updated with fresh images and content, though the recipe itself has remained perfectly the same!

The inspiration for this dish came from my mom, who had been teasing me with her super simple and easy dinner: tuna melt! I was so jealous because Mom Days are crazy around here, driving kids to school, plus activities and life in general. It’s mayhem!

For the days where I just can’t seem to catch up, this Keto Tuna Melt comes in like a night in shining armour!

Why it works

  1. Very fast to make – this Keto Tuna Melt is ready in minutes!
  2. Family approved – my whole family loves when I make Keto Tuna Melt for dinner!
  3. Tuna and cheese go together like two peas in a pod, making this a dish that is just as tasty as it is fast and easy to make!

Ingredients

  • tuna
  • mayonnaise
  • sea salt
  • ground black pepper
  • cheddar cheese
  • keto bread

Keto Bread – You can use whatever you like to make this Keto Tuna Melt! My #1 favourite is a 90 Second Keto Bread because it takes minutes to make, but you can use either bread slices, a bun sliced in half (like these Low Carb Onion Buns), or even a Keto Hot Dog Bun.

How to make Keto Tuna Melt

If you are going to go with the 90 Second Keto Bread, make that first and then turn the oven on to broil. Open a can of tuna and drain the liquid out, then empty half of it into a bowl with 2 tbsp mayonnaise. Mix with a fork until fully combined and then add salt and pepper to taste.

Bowl of tuna mixed with mayo beside a pile of shredded cheese and a skillet with a 90 second keto bread.

Place the bread on a baking sheet and spread 1/2 tbsp mayo evenly on each piece of keto bread. Divide the tuna mixture between the two breads and then top with the shredded cheddar cheese.

Broil in the oven for 1-2 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Remove from the oven and serve hot.

Expert Tips

  1. You can use any type of keto bread you like for this Keto Tuna Melt, however I recommend a 90 Second Keto Bread because it’s fast to make!
  2. Other bread options would be sliced keto bread, Low Carb Onion Bun sliced in half or a Keto Hot Dog Bun sliced in half.
  3. This recipe can be doubled, tripled, quadrupled, or multiplied however you like depending on how many tuna melts you may need!
  4. When broiling the cheese, make sure to keep a close eye on your Keto Tuna Melt because the cheese will burn very quickly!

I tried keto for a few months and had great results although I know its more of a lifestyle change in the end. I plan to get more into again after the holidays and I’ll be on the hunt for protein-rich meals. This looks like everything I love without all the extra carbs!

This sounds brilliant, I’m adding it to my recipe book for future use. How much is half a can of tuna – what size is your can? I’m in Australia & don’t know whether our tins are the same size as in the US.

    1. Aleta says:

Thanks so much! I am in Canada and the size I use is net 170g, drained 120g 🙂 Hope you enjoy!!
