Ingredients you’ll need to make this pizza:

This pizza comes together quickly and easily. Fresh dough, seasoned ground beef, and fresh ingredients are the star of the show.

cheeseburger pizza ingredients
  • Fresh dough is always the way to go. While making your pizza dough from scratch is an option (or even using a pre-baked crust), I purchase my dough from Whole Foods. You’ll need a 1 pound package of fresh pizza dough for this recipe.
  • Before laying your pizza dough on the counter and rolling it out, you’ll want to spread pastry flour on the counter.
  • The ground beef is seasoned with sea salt, black pepper, chili powder, and ground cumin.
  • The tomato sauce is made by combining fresh fire-roasted crushed tomatoes, grated parmesan cheese, and oregano. It’s the glue that brings the flavors of this pizza into taste bud harmony!
  • A cheeseburger pizza is not complete without white sharp cheddar cheese and mild cheddar cheese.
  • And right before you slide your pizza in the oven, you’ll place a layer of sliced tomatoes on top.

Tips for making the best cheeseburger pizza:

  • Seasoning your ground beef is a must! Don’t just brown the beef — give it a little love!
  • Allow your fresh dough to come to room temperature before you begin stretching and rolling it out. It will be much easier to work with your dough when it’s not cold.
  • And while we’re on the subject of “rolling dough.” You’ll actually wasn’t to use your hands to stretch the dough first as much as possible before rolling it. Get it to the size you need, then use a roller to finish the process. Minimize the rolling as much as you can, as this will stiffen your dough.
  • When baking your pizza, use a pizza stone (paid link) if you have one handy. Pizza stones mimic the result you would get from a brick pizza oven (like the legit pizzeria’s use). The stone retains heat well and evenly.
  • Have fun with your topping! We know some folks enjoy their cheeseburgers with lots of topping, and some prefer to keep things simple. So, if you like dill pickles on your burgers, add them. Other great additions are a drizzle of mustard, onions, or beef/duck/turkey bacon.
  • After baking, brush the edges of your pizza crust with olive oil. This will give the pizza a finished look.

Pizza FAQs

How thick is the crust for this pizza?

For this recipe, we are using 1 pound of dough which will make one 14-inch pizza. It is not too thin and not too thick. I would consider this a regular crust.  Dough for a regular crust pizza should be rolled 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.

If I am using fresh pizza dough, should I bake the dough prior to adding the sauce and topping?

There is no need to bake the pizza dough before adding the toppings. The bake time (18-20 minutes) will allow plenty of time for the dough to cook through.

What is the best way to reheat pizza?

Heat your oven to 350°F. Wrap the pizza in foil so the pizza crust doesn’t continue to brown. Place the pizza on a baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes. An air fryer is also great for reheating pizza if you have one!

The recipe is perfect to make when you want a fun meal that everyone in the family can contribute to preparing. It’s also perfect for games days and other gatherings when shareable/easy-to-hold food is important.

But do you really need a reason to make pizza? I doubt it. 🙂
